Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) Manager
with 5–10 years of hands-on experience in the
design, engineering, techno-commercial evaluation, and cost estimation
of BESS solutions in India. The ideal candidate will bring a deep understanding of various BESS technologies, their application in hybrid renewable projects (Solar, Wind, or both), and strong cost modelling capabilities for systems ranging from
1 MWh to 100 MWh
.This role is critical to evaluating BESS deployment for utility-scale projects, optimizing technical configurations, and supporting investment-grade proposals.
Key Roles & Responsibilities
- Lead technical and financial feasibility assessments for BESS deployments integrated with solar, wind, or hybrid renewable energy projects.
- Drive battery sizing optimization based on project needs—such as peak shifting, load smoothing, frequency regulation, or energy arbitrage.
- Prepare and validate cost estimates including CAPEX, OPEX, EPC costs, commissioning, and lifecycle expenses.
- Develop Levelized Cost of Storage (LCOS) models for multiple BESS architectures (e.g., centralized vs distributed).
- Conduct system design using modelling tools, ensuring compliance with performance requirements and cost effectiveness.
- Collaborate with internal teams (engineering, BD, EPC, O&M) and external stakeholders (vendors, consultants) to align technical design and commercial goals.
- Evaluate and benchmark vendor offers for battery packs, PCS, EMS, and BoP equipment; provide Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) analysis.
- Stay updated with policy, regulatory, and market developments impacting energy storage deployment in India (e.g., IEGC, CEA guidelines, SECI tenders).
- Support business development and proposal teams with techno-commercial inputs, tender documentation, and client presentations.
- Contribute to internal knowledge development, standardization of BESS cost libraries, and design templates.
Qualifications
Qualifications & Requirements
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical, Electronics, Mechanical, or Energy Systems Engineering.
- Proficient in BESS technologies (Li-ion, Flow, LFP, NMC, etc.) and battery sizing logic for multiple use cases.
- Demonstrated experience in cost modelling using MS Excel, Python, or similar analytical tools.
- Working knowledge of simulation and system design software like HOMER, PVSyst, SAM, MATLAB, or similar.
- Familiarity with safety codes, international standards (e.g., UL 9540, NFPA 855, IEEE standards).
- Strong documentation, presentation, and communication skills.
- Understanding of Indian electricity market dynamics, ancillary services, peak tariffs, and storage tenders.
Experience
- 5–10 years of relevant experience in BESS design, costing, and system integration—preferably in Indian or South Asian market context.
Preferred Attributes
- Exposure to utility-scale BESS projects with >10 MWh capacity.
- Experience in pre-bid engineering for SECI, NTPC, or DISCOM storage tenders.
- Certification or training in energy storage or grid integration is a plus.
