Job Description

Purpose/Objective


    This role is responsible for overseeing and managing the sales, open access, and contractual obligations for short-term tenders, as well as handling daily power trading operations by collaborating with both internal and external stakeholders to maximize profitability and efficiency, while also maintaining compliance with regulatory standards.

Key Responsibilities of Role


    Team Lead - Sales, Billing and Licence Tender Analysis and Participation: Analyze monthly tender data from state-wise utilities to understand requirements and plan for participation. Assess available capacity based on quarterly and yearly Operations and Maintainence (O&M) projections. Review tender terms and conditions, identify risk factors, and highlight them for management review. Float approval notes to the management for tender participation as per the Delegation of Authority (DOA). Manage one-time registration for new plants on online portals and handle payments for participation. Address clarifications from utilities and update management on critical points via email. Coordinate with the Company Secretary for board resolutions required for tender participation. Oversee the technical and financial bid qualification process, including support for Ernest Money Deposit (EMD) and Bank Guarantee (BG) submissions. Monitor reverse auction proceedings, perform competitor analysis, and make strategic decisions based on market intelligence. Prepare and submit Letters of Intent (LOI) and review Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs) drafted by team members for accuracy and compliance. Communicate effectively with utilities regarding any clarifications and maintain meticulous records of these communications. Open Access Management: Manage short-term open access contracts, ensuring compliance with buyer agreements and utility requirements. Coordinate with utilities to determine the mode of power take-off, whether under General Network Access (GNA) or Temporary General Network Access (TGNA). Conduct continuous contract monitoring from the start of the power supply, ensuring customer power off-take aligns with contract. General Network Access (GNA) Contracts Verify delivery points and create contracts based on the receiving substations' requirements. Create and approve contracts on the Web-Based Scheduling (WBS) platform and ensure RLDC approval for power flow commencement. Temeporary General Network Access (TGNA) Contracts Apply for power flow applications through the National Open Access Registry (NOAR). Ensure applications are submitted within the stipulated timelines and that Regional Load Dispatch Center (RLDC) approvals are diligently pursued and received. Contract Monitoring: Monitor daily power off-take by buyers and record data accurately in the system. Notify buyers promptly if off-take falls below the contracted 85% threshold. Ensure uniformity in off-take patterns and manage communication with buyers accordingly. Request power requirements from buyers two days before execution and coordinate accordingly. Collective Transactions: Manage daily bidding activities on Indian Energy Exchange for collective transactions. Coordinate availability confirmation from plants on Day-2 and Day-1. Optimize trading strategies based on market dynamics and trade analysis reports from ELECOR. Facilitate direct negotiations with buyers to secure premium rates and ensure timely trade execution. Supervise Real-Time Market (RTM), Day Ahead Market (DAM), and Term Ahead Market (TAM) activities as per market conditions. Long Duration Contracts: Facilitate the submission and management of long-duration contracts on exchanges, ensuring compliance with timelines and commitments. Participate in reverse auctions, monitor competing bids, and strategize to secure optimal rates. Coordinate with buyers for prompt confirmation post-auction and manage power flow commencement timelines. MIS Management: Generate and circulate MIS reports to CEO and senior management, detailing power sales, revenue generated, and plant-wise performance. Compile monthly trading analytics and sales reports across bilateral, term ahead, day ahead, and real-time markets. Provide insights for future planning and decision-making based on exchange market performance. Energy Trading (Power Sales to other Adani Group Companies): Facilitate the purchase of power from wind and solar generators, acting as an intermediary to supply power to other Adani Group companies such as AEML, consumer products, ports, and Ambuja Cement. Negotiate terms and conditions to establish contracts that meet the needs of both the power generators (sellers) and the end clients (buyers). Benchmark industry rates to inform pricing decisions and finalize contracts based on competitive market analysis. Customize standardized contracts to accommodate deviations on a case-by-case basis, ensuring all parties' interests are addressed. Oversee the uploading of contracts onto the system for digital signing by the power generators. Manage applications on State Load Dispatch Center (SLDC) portals for each power agreement, coordinating agreements by substations as needed. Evaluate tender terms and conditions, identify potential risks, and seek necessary amendments or clarifications to ensure compliance and favorable contract terms. Lead the bidding process on buyer-floated tenders, assessing the viability and risks involved. Secure bank guarantees (BG) and board resolutions through the finance team, and manage the payment of fees to the Power Finance Corporation (PFC). Monitor reverse auction proceedings and make strategic decisions based on competitor analysis and market intelligence. Coordinate with utilities for the issuance of Letters of Intent (LOI) and review Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs) for accuracy and compliance. Act as a liaison between the State Load Dispatch Center (SLDC) , power generators, and buyers, resolving any queries that arise during contract formation. Circulate the No Objection Certificate (NOC) provided by the State Load Dispatch Center (SLDC) to all parties, ensuring clear communication and agreement on contract terms. Manage financial transactions between the generator and the buyer, including the issuance of invoices and the processing of payments, while ensuring margins are accounted for. Handle the credit notes provided by the State Load Dispatch Center (SLDC) to the respective generator based on the power generation amount. Raise invoices to the buyer based on consumption units as per the group credit note (GCN) and manage the payment process, deducting AEL's margins before paying the generator. Energy Trading (Power Sales of other Adani Group Companies): Manage daily forecasting for power generation from other Adani Companies such as Adani Green and execute contracts based on agreed terms and conditions, ensuring a smooth contractual process. Sign power agreements digitally on a daily basis under a blanket contract with defined trading margins, and make informed decisions regarding the inclusion of Renewable Energy Certificates (RECs) in sales. Oversee and facilitate the power flow from green energy sources to final buyers, handling invoice processes and transaction settlements accordingly. Analyze market trends for Day Ahead Market (DAM) and Green DAM, deciding on the most favorable strategy for selling Renewable Energy Certificates (RECs). Prepare comprehensive monthly trading reports detailing all green energy transactions and perform ongoing registration tasks for buyers and generators on national exchanges. Exchange Bidding and Monitoring: Monitor residual power for daily bidding in the Indian Energy Exchange across various markets: Day Ahead Market (DAM), Real-Time Market (RTM), and Term Ahead Market (TAM). Analyze the best times to sell energy for premium rates and coordinate with buyers for one-to-one trades. Observe market dynamics to capitalize on opportunities for obtaining premium rates. Manage contingency trading in the RTM and ensure bids are placed within capacity limits. Track bid validity, contract acceptance, and power flow commencement for long-duration contracts on the exchange. Supervise long-duration contract applications, assess buyer confirmations, and monitor completion of reverse auctions for price setting. Engage in Real-Time Market trading as required to manage any unfavorable circumstances which necessitate the buy or sale of power at short notice. Create detailed sales analytics and allocation reports to aid in future planning and inform the strategic division of power sales channels across bilateral contracts and exchange markets. Ensure timely completion of all contract performance guarantees and manage follow-ups for power supply commencement. Manage the distribution of MIS reports to the management, detailing revenue generated, power sold, contract participation, and power availability insights. Digitization and Automation: Execute comprehensive digitization strategies to optimise operational efficiency Implement automation solutions to support overall organisational goals / strategy People and Team Management: Foster a constructive team environment, managing team performance, and driving initiatives for continuous development and departmental excellence. Ensure that all team members are aligned with the business strategy, promoting a culture of innovation and response to changes. Qualifications and Experience


    Educational Qualification: B.E./ B.Tech (Mechanical, Electrical, related field), Additional Degrees or Cetifications (Energy management, Business Administration, related field) preferred Work Experience (Range of years): Minimum 6 years of experience in power trading negotiations, contract management, or related role. Preferred Industry: Background in the power and energy sector with exposure to power trading mechanisms, policy landscapes and renewable energy trading.
