Job Description

Purpose/Objective


Assistant Manager Outbound Logistics will assist in managing the outbound logistics of finished products, byproducts, and precious metal refining (PMR) output for both domestic and international markets. This role involves supporting the planning, documentation, and execution of shipping and transport activities via road, rail, and sea. The position will work closely with the Outbound Logistics In charge, coordinating with internal teams and external vendors to ensure timely and cost-effective product dispatch.

Assistant Manager - Outbound Logistics - Copper Operations


Logistics Coordination and Execution:

  • Assist in planning and coordinating outbound logistics, including container placement, loading, and dispatch via rail, road, and sea.
  • Support the alignment of dispatch schedules with production and sales requirements to meet delivery timelines.
  • Ensure proper coordination with transporters and shipping lines for timely placement of trucks, containers, and vessels.
  • Monitor the loading process to ensure the correct product quality and quantity are dispatched.


Documentation and Customs Support:

  • Prepare and verify shipping and customs documentation, ensuring accuracy and compliance with domestic and international regulations.
  • Assist in managing documentation for exports, including invoices, packing lists, bills of lading, and customs clearance forms.
  • Liaise with customs authorities and agents to ensure smooth clearance processes.
  • Maintain and update shipping records, ensuring all necessary documents are filed and accessible.


Vendor and Transporter Management:

  • Coordinate with transporters, shipping lines, and other logistics vendors to ensure the timely availability of transport resources.
  • Assist in tracking and managing vendor performance, ensuring compliance with service agreements and addressing issues related to delays or service failures.
  • Monitor the placement of vehicles and containers, ensuring alignment with loading schedules.
  • Support vendor negotiations for better rates and service terms, under the guidance of the Outbound Logistics Incharge.


Shipment Tracking and Reporting:

  • Monitor the progress of shipments, ensuring timely delivery and reporting any potential delays or issues to the Outbound Incharge.
  • Track road, rail, and sea shipments, providing updates to internal teams on the status of dispatches.
  • Prepare reports on outbound logistics performance, including dispatch accuracy, transit times, and delivery KPIs.
  • Use digital platforms and tools to enhance shipment tracking and reporting.


Safety, Compliance, and Security:

  • Ensure adherence to safety and compliance protocols during the loading, transport, and dispatch processes.
  • Support the enforcement of security measures to safeguard products during transit.
  • Assist in the implementation of safety audits and corrective actions to maintain high safety standards.
  • Ensure all dispatches comply with legal and regulatory standards, including those for hazardous materials.


Data Analytics and Dashboard Reporting:

  • Assist in creating and managing dashboards for tracking logistics KPIs such as delivery times, transit accuracy, and vendor performance.
  • Use data analytics to monitor trends in outbound logistics, identifying areas for optimization and cost reduction.
  • Prepare and present regular reports to the Outbound Incharge and senior management, providing insights into outbound logistics performance.
  • Leverage digital tools and platforms to automate data collection and streamline reporting processes.

Qualifications and Experience


Education Qualification:

Bachelor’s degree in supply chain management, Logistics, Engineering, or a related field

Advanced degrees like an MBA in Logistics, Operations, or related disciplines would be a plus.


Work Experience (Range of years):

5 - 10 years of experience in logistics management, with at least 2 years in a lead role within the mining, metals, or heavy industries sector.
