Assistant Manager – Design & Engineering (Solar + BESS)

Job Summary-

We are seeking a highly experienced Assistant Manager – Design & Engineering with deep domain expertise in Solar PV and Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS). The ideal candidate will lead a multidisciplinary team responsible for complete electrical and civil design, system engineering, and grid compliance for utility-scale and large C&I solar + BESS projects across India and international geographies. This role requires both strategic planning and deep technical engagement in project-specific design development from pre-sales to commissioning.

Key Responsibilities-

• Lead end-to-end design and engineering of utility-scale solar PV plants and hybrid solar + BESS systems.
• Supervise electrical, civil, and automation design engineers to deliver integrated design packages.
• Review and approve SLDs, layout drawings, load flow studies, earthing, protection, and SCADA/automation architecture.
• Optimize Solar PV and BESS solutions including electrical layouts and component sizing (PCS, batteries, transformers, cabling, etc.).
• Perform energy modelling (PVsyst, HOMER, etc.) and battery sizing based on applications such as peak shaving, backup, and arbitrage.
• Evaluate and select battery technologies (Li-ion, LFP, flow batteries, etc.) and inverter/PCS configurations (AC/DC coupled).
• Ensure compliance with CEA, CIEG, DISCOM, and international standards (IEC, IS, IEEE, UL, NFPA, etc.).
• Support pre-bid engineering, including preliminary layouts, design briefs, and cost estimates.
• Develop and review hybrid system architectures, including BMS/EMS/PPC integration.
• Conduct site assessments, feasibility studies, and grid impact analyses.
• Lead design handover to execution teams and support during construction and commissioning.
• Liaise with STU/CTU/DISCOM for CEIG, SLDC approvals and interconnection compliance.
• Interface with OEMs and vendors to ensure component compatibility and optimal system integration.
• Analyze system performance, conduct root cause analysis for failures, and support predictive maintenance.
• Prepare technical reports, test plans, compliance checklists, and risk assessments (DFMEA).
• Participate in safety reviews, technical case studies, and client discussions.
• Develop and maintain engineering standards and best practices documentation.
• Support technical inputs for RfPs, DPRs, feasibility reports, and lender due diligence.

Qualifications & Experience:

• Bachelor’s or master’s in electrical or mechanical engineering.
• 8–20 years of experience in solar PV design and BESS system integration.
• Experience in delivering large-scale projects (100+ MWp Solar or 20+ MWh BESS).
• Proficiency in software tools: PVsyst, ETAP, HOMER, PSSC, PSCAD, MATLAB/Simulink, Dig Silent.
• Understanding of PV inverters, PCS, BESS components (cells, BMS, PCS, thermal), SCADA systems, EMS/PPC algorithms, and grid codes.
• Power system studies: load flow, short circuit, protection coordination.
• Experience mentoring and managing teams of 4–15 engineers across disciplines.
