Role Description
This is a full-time on-site role for an Assistant Manager - Civil & Structural Engineering (Solar) located in Pune. The role will involve tasks related to project management, stormwater management, team leadership, inspection, and infrastructure development for solar projects.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare and lead detailed civil design for solar module mounting structures (fixed tilt and tracker-based) and their foundations (pile, raft, or RCC pedestal) including structural analysis as per IS/IEC/ASCE standards.
- Design and detail foundations for inverter duty transformers, ICOG panels, LT panels, control & relay panels, DG sets, cable trenches, and associated electrical balance of plant (BoP) infrastructure.
- Engineer layouts and structural drawings for main control room (MCR), switchyard/substation civil works, auxiliary buildings, security cabins, warehouse, office block, fencing, culverts, and approach/internal roads.
- Perform geotechnical design based on soil investigation reports and ensure appropriate solutions for varied site conditions (soft soil, black cotton soil, rocky strata).
- Develop grading, drainage, and stormwater management designs to ensure site stability, erosion control, and effective land utilization.
- Generate design deliverables including GA drawings, detailed construction drawings, reinforcement detailing, fabrication drawings, BoQs, and technical specifications.
- Conduct finite element analysis and simulations for structures using STAAD Pro / ETABS and prepare AutoCAD / Civil 3D layouts.
- Review and validate EPC contractor/vendor submissions including design reports, GTPs, shop drawings, and construction methodologies, ensuring compliance with project standards.
- Coordinate civil engineering inputs with electrical and mechanical design teams for integrated layouts and optimized plant design.
- Support preparation of tender specifications, cost estimates, and bid evaluations for civil scope of works.
- Track, control, and manage design deliverables and schedules across multiple projects ensuring quality, accuracy, and timely submission.
- Lead and mentor a team of civil engineers and draftsmen, ensuring design consistency and capacity building.
- Interface with clients, consultants, EPC partners, and statutory authorities, representing civil design requirements and providing clarifications.
- Provide technical support and clarifications to site execution teams, including design modifications and resolving site-related challenges.
- Implement rigorous design checks, peer reviews, and third-party validations where required to ensure reliability and safety of civil structures.
- Incorporate health, safety, environmental, and sustainability requirements into all design outputs.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Civil/Structural Engineering from a recognized institution.
- 5–7 years of professional experience in civil/structural design, with at least 4–5 years in utility-scale solar projects.
- Strong expertise in design codes and standards (IS, IEC, ASCE, ACI, BIS, Eurocode preferred).
- Proficiency in STAAD Pro, ETABS, AutoCAD, Civil 3D, MS Excel (advanced), and relevant structural design software.
- Demonstrated experience in design of foundations, buildings, drainage, roads, and substation civil works for renewable or power projects.
- Ability to review EPC/vendor drawings, GTPs, and construction documents critically.
- Excellent project management, leadership, and coordination skills with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills for client/stakeholder interactions.
- Familiarity with geotechnical investigations, hydrology, and site development practices.
- Knowledge of quality, safety, and environmental (QHSE) compliance in design and construction.
