US Mortgage Underwriting

Must Have

• US mortgage residential underwriting
• Strong understanding of the 4 C's of Underwriting (Credit, Capacity, Capital, Collateral)
• Income calculations for salaried and self-employed applicants
  

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent (fifteen years of education) required.
• Minimum of 1 year of experience in Mortgage Underwriting with strong knowledge of financial and non-financial supporting documentation, income calculations, asset/liability and appraisal verification, and credit report review.
• Familiarity with risk and compliance in lending, especially FNMA and FHLMC underwriting standards.
• Experience with underwriting procedures for Conventional, Correspondent Lending, Reverse mortgages, FHA, and VA (government) loans.
  

Functions And Responsibilities

• Review and analyze mortgage loan applications to ensure eligibility, accuracy, completeness, and compliance with internal and regulatory guidelines to minimize risk.
• Examine all required loan data, reports, and inspections to ensure the collateral meets investor and company standards.
• Make independent underwriting decisions regarding acceptance and risk of loans in accordance with HUD, company, and investor guidelines.
• Provide final approval for underwriting of mortgage loans, including Conventional, Correspondent, FHA, VA, and Reverse products.
• Complete all required paperwork and forms accurately and within established timeframes.
• Review and clear sign-off conditions promptly, meeting timelines set by management.
• Collaborate with staff and management to resolve escalated loan issues and provide recommendations for improving underwriting policies and practices when appropriate.
• Manage loans using all relevant functions of Encompass.
• Effectively communicate underwriting decisions and condition requirements with processors, advisors, and other stakeholders.
• Maintain a high level of customer service and clear communication with other departments.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
