Job Description

Strategic and operational management

  • Develop and implement strategies to meet the business unit's financial and operational targets.
  • Oversee daily operations to ensure efficient workflow, adherence to standard procedures, and quality standards.
  • Analyze performance data and key performance indicators (KPIs) to identify opportunities for improvement and make data-driven decisions.
  • Create and manage the unit's budget, controlling expenditures and optimizing resource allocation.

Team leadership and development

  • Lead, mentor, and motivate a team to foster a high-performance culture.
  • Conduct performance reviews, provide constructive feedback, and identify training and development needs for staff.
  • Oversee the hiring, training, and supervision of new employees within the unit.
  • Promote teamwork and a positive, inclusive work environment.

Compliance and quality assurance

  • Ensure the unit's operations comply with all company policies, procedures, and industry regulations.
  • Address and resolve customer or client issues and complaints.
  • Ensure that the unit consistently delivers a high standard of service or production.

Interdepartmental collaboration

  • Serve as the main point of contact between the unit and senior management.
  • Collaborate with other departments to facilitate coordination and ensure cross-functional alignment with company goals.

Common unit head qualifications Education

  • A bachelor's degree in a field relevant to the unit, such as business administration, finance, or operations management.
  • In some fields, such as healthcare, a master's degree or specific licensure is often required or preferred.

Experience

  • Proven experience in a managerial or leadership role, preferably within the same industry.
  • Experience leading and motivating teams, and a proven track record of achieving business objectives.

  • Strategic thinking: To develop and implement plans that support organizational objectives.
