Job Overview:

The

Special Educational Needs (SEN) Coordinator

is responsible for developing and implementing strategies to support students with diverse learning needs, ensuring an

inclusive and supportive educational environment

in alignment with the

IB curriculum (PYP, MYP, and DP)

. The role involves working closely with teachers, parents, and external professionals to create

Individualized Education Plans (IEPs)

and ensure that students with learning differences receive the necessary accommodations and support to achieve academic and personal success.

  • Development & Implementation of SEN Strategies
  • Design and implement a whole-school SEN policy that aligns with IB Inclusion principles and caters to students with a range of learning needs (e.g., dyslexia, ADHD, autism spectrum disorder, speech and language difficulties, gifted learners).
  • Ensure the effective integration of inclusive teaching practices across the PYP, MYP, and DP curriculum.
  • Lead the identification, assessment, and intervention process for students requiring additional support.
  • Student Support & Individualized Education Plans (IEPs)
  • Develop and oversee IEPs and accommodations plans for students with special educational needs.
  • Collaborate with subject teachers to differentiate instruction and adapt teaching methods to meet students' diverse needs.
  • Work with the PYP, MYP, and DP coordinators to ensure curriculum accessibility for all learners.
  • Monitor student progress and adjust strategies accordingly.
  • Teacher Training & Professional Development
  • Conduct workshops and training sessions for teachers on inclusive education, differentiation strategies, and effective SEN support.
  • Provide ongoing guidance on classroom modifications, behavioral strategies, and assessment accommodations.
  • Support teachers in incorporating universal design for learning (UDL) principles.
  • Parent & Community Engagement
  • Act as a liaison between parents, teachers, and external specialists to create a holistic support system for students.
  • Organize parent workshops on learning disabilities, behavioral management, and home-based strategies.
  • Ensure timely communication with parents regarding student progress and intervention strategies.
  • Collaboration with External Specialists
  • Maintain relationships with speech therapists, occupational therapists, psychologists, and special educators to provide multidisciplinary support.
  • Arrange diagnostic assessments and interventions as needed.
  • Ensure that students with diagnosed learning needs receive appropriate accommodations for IB assessments.
  • Compliance & Documentation
  • Ensure compliance with IB and national regulations related to special education.
  • Maintain detailed records of student support plans, assessment reports, and accommodations.
  • Assist in preparing SEN documentation for IB authorization and inspections.
  • Post-graduation in Special Education or a recognized field related to SEN.
  • Minimum of 7-8 years teaching children with Special Education Needs (SEN).
  • At least two years of teaching experience within the IB programmes.
  • Experience managing a team of SEN educators is preferred.
  • Knowledge:
    • Strong understanding of IB policies on inclusion and accommodations.
    • Expertise in learning disabilities, behavioral support, and assistive technology.
    • Familiarity with differentiation strategies and evidence-based interventions.
  • Skills:
    • Strong leadership and problem-solving abilities.
    • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
    • Ability to collaborate with teachers and parents effectively.
    • Proficiency in creating IEPs and monitoring student progress.
    • IB-certified training in inclusion and SEN coordination.
    • Certification in Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA), Dyslexia Therapy, or Educational Psychology.
    • Experience in working with multilingual learners and culturally diverse student populations.
