About the Role:
We are seeking a dynamic and strategic Social Media Manager to lead the digital storytelling for our UK-based publications including Eastern Eye, Asian Trader, and Asian Hospitality. The ideal candidate will blend creativity with analytical thinking and have a strong grasp of social media trends, news journalism, and audience engagement strategies.
You will be responsible for planning, creating, publishing, and optimizing content across social platforms to amplify our editorial stories and drive traffic to our websites. This is a newsroom-adjacent role, working closely with journalists, video editors, and the editorial leadership team.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Content Creation & Publishing
Develop tailored content for platforms such as Instagram, X (Twitter), Facebook, LinkedIn, and YouTube.
Write engaging copy, captions, and headlines that reflect the editorial tone of the publication.
Design or collaborate on visuals, infographics, and short-form video content (Reels, Shorts, Stories, etc.).
Repurpose editorial content into bite-sized, high-impact posts.
2. Video & Multimedia Support
Create short promotional videos (30–60 seconds) to tease stories or features.
Collaborate with the video editing team for reels, animations, and interviews.
Use stock footage and editorial B-roll to enhance storytelling.
3. Strategic Planning & Campaign Execution
Develop platform-specific campaign strategies to maximize story reach and reader engagement.
Plan and execute promotional schedules around major stories, news exclusives, and events.
Utilize paid social (boosting posts, sponsored content) where necessary.
4. Analytics & Optimisation
Track performance metrics using tools like Meta Insights, Twitter/X Analytics, and Google Analytics.
Use A/B testing and engagement tracking to refine posting strategies.
Provide weekly/monthly reports on performance and recommendations.
5. Trend Monitoring & Innovation
Stay on top of social media trends, platform updates, and new content formats.
Identify timely opportunities for engagement (e.g., UK political updates, trending hashtags).
Bring innovative ideas to increase follower count, story shares, and brand visibility.
Key Skills & Requirements:
Proven experience (3–5 years) in social media management, preferably in media, journalism, or publishing.
Strong copywriting and content creation skills.
Video editing proficiency (Adobe Premiere Pro, Canva, CapCut, or similar tools).
Excellent understanding of UK audience behavior and political/media context.
Familiarity with CMS platforms, especially WordPress.
Ability to work in a fast-paced, deadline-driven editorial environment.
