Job Title: Shift In-Charge – Production Company: ArcelorMittal Nippon Steel India Limited Department/Function: Production Asset: Beneficiation Plant Level: M-08 Location: Sagasahi BP Reports To: Head of Production Job Purpose: The Shift In-Charge – Production is responsible for managing and supervising production activities during assigned shifts at the beneficiation plant. The role ensures that production targets are achieved efficiently while maintaining high standards of safety, quality, and operational discipline. This role also coordinates with cross-functional teams to ensure smooth plant operations and timely resolution of any issues. Key Responsibilities: Supervise and coordinate production operations during the shift to meet daily targets. Monitor plant equipment and process parameters, proactively addressing production issues. Ensure adherence to safety and quality standards as per company policies and regulatory guidelines. Coordinate with the maintenance team to minimize downtime from equipment issues. Manage and guide shift workforce, ensuring clear communication of roles and expectations. Oversee raw material handling and ensure availability to sustain production runs. Lead shift handover meetings and maintain detailed shift-wise documentation and reports. Submit production reports including output, downtime, and efficiency data. Drive continuous improvement initiatives in productivity and cost reduction. Ensure compliance with environmental and statutory norms during shift operations. Key Challenges: Managing production operations while maintaining strict safety and quality controls. Responding to breakdowns and process upsets with minimum production loss. Balancing output targets with resource constraints during critical shifts. Ensuring effective team coordination under high-pressure environments. Key Decisions: By Job Holder: Allocation of manpower and resources during the shift. Real-time decision-making during process disruptions or equipment breakdowns. Prioritization of critical tasks based on shift conditions. Recommendations to Superior: Process or schedule changes to enhance operational efficiency. Procurement or replenishment of materials and spares. Suggestions for improvements in operational procedures or technology. Interactions: Internal: Reports to Head of Production. Coordinates closely with Maintenance, Quality, and Safety teams. Collaborates with fellow shift in-charges for seamless operations. External: May interact with vendors or service providers for shift-related material/equipment support. Skills & Qualifications: Educational Qualifications: B.E./B.Tech in Mechanical, Metallurgy, Mineral Processing, or related engineering field. Experience:4–8 years of experience in a similar role, preferably in beneficiation or steel processing plants. Functional Skills: In-depth knowledge of beneficiation processes (crushing, grinding, classification, filtration). Proficiency in production reporting, KPIs tracking, and shift management. Strong understanding of plant safety, quality systems, and statutory compliance. Behavioral Skills: Strong leadership with a hands-on problem-solving approach. Decisive, with the ability to handle emergency situations calmly. Effective communicator and team motivator. Meticulous with attention to operational details and safety focus.
