Job Description

In the position of Principal of the College, your primary focus will be on academic matters. You will be responsible for developing the academic strategy in line with the College’s vision and philosophy, ensuring it remains at the forefront of education for intermediate students. The Principal is expected to build, lead, and inspire the middle management team and staff, while nurturing and developing strong relationships with teachers, staff, and management.


The Principal plays a key role in policy-making of the organization in line with its vision and mission, ensuring these policies are strictly adhered to by staff and students so that they embody the same values as the College. He/she is expected to innovate new ideas to engage students in multiple areas, encouraging them to have open discussions with teachers and management to help build strong interpersonal skills.


The Principal will also be actively involved in developing strategies for student admissions, conducting market research, and organizing sessions to increase awareness among the target audience. He/she will make proposals to the Management regarding the educational character, activities, and mission of the College, ensuring the Management is fully engaged in all strategic decisions and that its directives are effectively implemented.


Reporting Structure:

  1. The Principal will directly report to the CEO of the College.
  2. All HODs / Teachers will directly report to the Principal.
  3. While the Admissions, Student Services, and Outreach Managers have a functional reporting structure to the CEO, they will directly report to the Principal.

Departments to Handle:

  1. Academics
  2. Administration
  3. Admissions

Curriculum, Schedules, and Exams:

  • The Principal will plan curriculum development for Integrated Programs aligned with common entrance exams.
  • Stay updated with the latest developments in integrated curriculum, university intake requirements, inter-board curriculum changes, exam patterns, and other relevant updates, keeping the management and team informed and implementing required actions.
  • Plan annual schedules for regular subjects, integrated programs, and beyond-classroom activities.
  • Liaise with the Controller of Examinations for weekly, term, and pre-final exams.
  • Conduct student performance analysis and take necessary measures such as counselling, revised teaching strategies, and parent meetings.

Policies:

  • Lead the development, implementation, and monitoring of College plans and policies.
  • Promote discipline, good conduct, and commitment among staff by leading through example.
  • Maintain student discipline and, where necessary, suspend or expel students on disciplinary or academic grounds in consultation with Management.

Students:

  • Lead classes for batches at regular intervals and meet each section at least once a week.
  • Organize half-yearly Parent-Teacher Meetings and follow up with one-on-one sessions as required.
  • Know each student personally, including their strengths.

Teachers:

  • Propose and plan teacher development programs twice a year.
  • Hold regular meetings with teachers to gather feedback on students, identify gaps, and take corrective measures.

Other Departments:

  • Coordinate with Admissions, Outreach, and Student Services Managers to review and improve admission procedures.
  • Ensure all departments stay informed on competitive exam patterns and dates.

Appraisals:

  • Conduct appraisals for all teachers and departmental managers as per the schedule, updating HR on outcomes.

Other Responsibilities:

  • Develop and maintain the College’s partnerships with higher education institutions.
  • Collaborate with marketing and counselling teams to implement effective student recruitment strategies.
  • Seek development opportunities for the College, including business and community partnerships.
  • Represent and promote the College at local, regional, and national forums.
  • Enhance communication across all levels, acting as an ambassador and advocate for the College.
  • Conduct counselling and orientation sessions in schools and other colleges.
  • Promote equal opportunities in all aspects of service delivery and employment.
  • Address queries from students, parents, staff, and student unions.

Professional Standards:

  • Develop and maintain quality standards relevant to the role.
  • Pursue professional development to maintain expertise and high standards.

Qualifications and Eligibility:

  1. Master’s degree in one of the core subjects (English, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Economics, Commerce, Political Science, History).
  2. Ph.D. preferred, though not mandatory.
  3. Minimum 15 years of teaching experience with at least 5 years in a key educational leadership role.
  4. Prior experience as Principal in reputed colleges or schools is an advantage.
  5. Strong teaching, mentoring, interpersonal, and communication skills with the ability to lead effectively.
  6. Proficiency in English and Telugu is required.
  7. Strong computer skills, including proficiency in Excel and PowerPoint for building annual reports.
