ROLE SUMMARY (PURPOSE)

The National Credit Head for Business Loans is responsible for overseeing the credit assessment, risk management, and credit underwriting processes for business loans at a national level within Muthoot FinCorp Limited. They lead a team of credit professionals and work closely with other departments to ensure sound credit decisions aligning with the companys risk appetite and regulatory compliance.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Credit Management

• Creating and refining credit policies aligned with RBI regulations and company risk appetite to ensure prudent lending practices.
• Review financial statements, credit reports, and other relevant data to make informed credit decisions.
• Implementing robust risk assessment mechanisms, credit scoring models, and evaluating creditworthiness of potential borrowers.
• Setting underwriting guidelines, assessing credit proposals, and approving/rejecting loan applications within delegated authority.
• Establishing monitoring systems to track the performance of loan portfolios, identifying early warning signals, and implementing remedial measures.

Portfolio Management

• Strategizing to maintain a balanced and diversified loan portfolio while optimizing risk-adjusted returns.
• Analyzing credit performance metrics, preparing reports for senior management, and recommending strategies for improvement or risk mitigation

Leadership

• Supervising a team of credit analysts, underwriters, and risk managers, providing guidance, training, and fostering a culture of excellence.
• Liaising with sales, operations, and other departments to streamline processes, resolve issues, and drive business growth while managing credit risk.

Decision Making

• Making critical credit decisions based on thorough analysis, market insights, and risk assessment, balancing growth objectives with risk mitigation strategies.
• Approval or rejection of business loan applications based on credit risk assessment.
• Setting credit limits and terms for business loans.
• Development and implementation of credit policies and strategies.
• Initiating risk mitigation measures for the credit portfolio.

Process Improvement

• Continuously assess and enhance credit assessment processes to improve efficiency and accuracy.
• Oversee the credit underwriting process, reviewing, and approving credit proposals, identifying potential credit risks, and recommending appropriate risk mitigation measures.
• Implement technological solutions or tools to streamline credit evaluation and monitoring.

Compliance

• Ensure compliance with all relevant laws, regulations, and internal policies related to credit risk management and business loan activities.
• Prepare credit risk reports, monitor key credit risk indicators, and provide regular updates to senior management.

EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE

Minimum Qualification: A bachelors degree in finance, business, economics, or a related field. A postgraduate degree or professional qualifications like CA, or CMA may be preferred.

Nature of Experience: 10+ years of experience in credit assessment and underwriting, preferably in business loans or commercial banking. Prior managerial experience and a strong understanding of credit risk management are essential.
