Market Intelligence Price Forecasting & Analytics

Purpose/Objective

Team Member – Market Intelligence is responsible for collecting, organizing, and validating market data that supports procurement forecasting, vendor analysis, and strategic sourcing decisions. This role contributes to internal reporting and helps identify early signals of price movement, supply risks, and vendor opportunities, thereby enabling the procurement team to act proactively and competitively in the market.

Key Responsibilities of Role

Data Collection & Validation: Gather pricing information, commodity trends, and industry developments from a range of internal sources, vendor submissions, and reliable external publications. Organize and validate the collected data to ensure consistency, completeness, and accuracy before sharing with procurement teams for analysis and decision-making. Industry Report Compilation: Prepare comprehensive weekly and monthly reports capturing commodity price movements, vendor activity, and supply chain dynamics. Summarize relevant insights from newspapers, market reports, trade journals, analyst briefings, and commercial databases to inform strategic procurement planning. Vendor Performance & Risk Input: Support risk assessment and vendor evaluation by collecting and updating vendor performance metrics, audit results, and compliance history. Maintain a structured database that benchmarks vendor performance against market standards using validated data on past trends and procurement transactions. Coordination with Buyers: Collaborate closely with category managers and sourcing teams to provide timely and relevant data inputs for price negotiations and supplier selection. Communicate updates on market movements, pricing fluctuations, and emerging risks to help buyers make informed decisions. Price Index Management: Track key market indices such as Wholesale Price Index (WPI), benchmark rates for commodities like steel and cement, and applicable import/export tariffs. Regularly update ERP systems or custom-built trackers with the latest index values to support pricing models and escalation clauses. Historical Data Management: Maintain structured and retrievable records of historical cost trends, price movements, and procurement benchmarks. Support forecasting and scenario planning by ensuring access to clean and well-organized historical data repositories. Support in Presentations: Assist in preparing executive-level presentations, including visual summaries, trend dashboards, and key market insights. Ensure data is presented clearly and professionally to support procurement leadership in internal reviews and strategic discussions.

Qualifications and Experience

Educational Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Statistics, or Economics Certification in Market Research or Data Analytics is an added advantage Work Experience: 7+ years of experience in collecting and analyzing procurement or commodity-related data Working knowledge of Excel, Power BI, and exposure to market intelligence databases
