Job Description

Roles and Reponsibilities

  • Is familiar with the Health, Safety, Environmental Protection, and Quality Policy and understands the responsibilities under the Environmental Management System (EMS). In keeping with this and other compliance policies, they know their duty to report any noncompliance and/or concern to their manager or members of the senior management team (including the highest level of management) either directly or through the open reporting system as per Management System guidelines.
  • Track and interpret relevant environmental regulations, communicate information to vessels, shore staff, and the New Build Project team to ensure compliance with legislation.
  • Build relationships and consult with regulatory bodies, such as US Coast Guard, etc,
  • Participate in industry associations and committees.
  • Provide guidance, information, and training on regulatory matters to other departments and sea staff
  • Maintain the legislation registers all upcoming regulatory requirements and look at trends for the future.
  • Work with internal stakeholders to position the company for future requirements
  • Update relevant documents and plans to ensure the most current regulations.
  • Issuing of annual certificates to vessels at the completion of the monitoring period
  • Manage the development and employment of systems to ensure compliance, record-keeping, and preparation for:
  • ISM code certification
  • ISO standards systems compliance and future certification
  • Regulatory codes, international regulations
  • USCG and other relevant national and flag state authority requirements
  • Documentation, tracking, statistics, and reporting
  • Perform other duties as required.
  • Liaise with external stakeholders, such as flag states, port authorities, and classification societies, to ensure compliance requirements are met.
  • Maintain positive relationships with regulatory agencies and industry associations to stay informed about changes in regulations and industry standards


Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science
  • Proven senior management experience in a competitive shipping environment in a ship owning or third-party ship management company.
  • Full understanding of Marine and HSEQ management principles and their application, and working knowledge of relevant industry regulations, procedures, audits, and instructions
  • Strong technical and documentation skills, including the development and implementation of documents and procedures, emergency response documents, plans, and procedures.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, and proficient writing style
  • Class 1 Certificate – Master Mariner
  • Able to work under pressure in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite (including Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, and Excel)
  • Strong analytical skills
