Job Purpose
The purpose of this role is to lead and manage large-scale, multi-stakeholder waste management projects with a focus on operational excellence, strategic partnerships, process optimization, and impact-driven outcomes. The incumbent will be responsible for end-to-end resource and project management, stakeholder coordination, internal audits, field operations, and business development. The role also involves ensuring adherence to quality, health and safety standards while driving innovations and efficiencies across the waste management value chain.
Job Responsibilities
Resource Management:
Lead and manage project resources including team allocation, budgeting, and task management.
Oversee a team of project managers and coordinators with direct reporting responsibility.
Identify and address capacity-building needs within project teams.
Conduct continuous capacity planning to optimize skills and ensure successful delivery.
Provide regular project updates and reviews to the core project committee.
Foster a culture of continuous learning, encouraging the team to stay updated on industry trends.
Field visit, Process optimisation and Improvement:
Assess project processes regularly, identify inefficiencies, and drive continuous improvement.
Monitor and track project KPIs, linking them to team performance and incentive systems.
Conduct field visits to evaluate project execution and refine KPIs based on feedback.
Identify risks and revise mitigation plans with contingency strategies.
Audits and compliance
Implement internal audits to assess finance, budgeting, operations, and compliance.
Collaborate with the QEHS team to ensure alignment with SZW s IMS certification.
Oversee audits on data security and conduct site audits for compliance with project requirements.
Project Management:
Develop detailed project execution plans with clear scope, timelines, and resource needs.
Coordinate cross-functional teams and ensure effective communication and collaboration.
Manage project budgets, expenses, and corrective actions as required.
Lead the setup of Material Recovery Facilities (MRFs), map waste flows, and assess long-term project viability (enterprise development).
Support client with baseline creation, progress reports, strategy submissions, and risk flagging.
Data and Financial Management:
Establish and implement processes for data accuracy through audits and validation checks.
Regular review of P&L of the ecosystem project components to ensure viable operations across the project.
Monitor data analytics for informed decision-making.
Partnership building
Cultivate partnerships with brands, government agencies, and private stakeholders.
Collaborate with financial partners to leverage funds for project sustainability.
Strengthen client relationships and identify cross-selling opportunities in coordination with the internal sales team.
Conduct market analysis to identify new opportunities and expansion areas.
Conduct key stakeholder meeting especially with Government, local bodies, private sector, recyclers, partners, etc as applicable to ensure smooth project execution.
Support client consultations with local bodies and regulatory authorities.
Operational excellence:
Oversee operations across project value chain(which will include collection, collection centers, MRF, end destination)
Ensure adherence to safety, quality, and environmental compliance standards.
Monitor performance and implement efficiency improvements.
Reporting and Communication:
Support client with an outreach strategy and work plan
Support with outreach campaigns post the set-up of MRF amongst relevant stakeholders
Champion communications and impact narratives in alignment with SZW s brand and marketing guidelines.
Ensure timely reporting as per the KPIs laid out in Table 6
Provide reports of the following: Bi-weekly project updates, Quarterly financial report, End-of-project report, Social Return on Investment (SROI) analysis and Risk register
