The incumbent is expected to bring strong technical expertise with a University Degree in

Engineering, preferably with a Master’s degree in Energy Management / Business / Finance, and a proven track of at least 10 years of experience spanning energy trading, power procurement, or related fields, with a strong background in electricity markets and contracts.


This role requires-

  • Understanding of power markets, energy trading platforms, and market regulations.
  • Understanding of power trading tools, financial models / instruments used in energy market, and risk management strategies.
  • Familiarity with renewable energy markets and carbon credit trading.
  • Prior experience in power scheduling and detailed understanding of LDC operations
  • Effective contract management with counterparties like IPPs, Traders, IEX, STU, CTU
  • Familiarity with regulatory bodies and compliance requirements in the energy sector.
  • Experience with environmental regulations and renewable energy mandates is a plus.
  • Strong analytical skills with experience in data analysis and forecasting tools.
  • Strong verbal and written communication abilities.


This role entails-

Power Purchase:

  • Execute short-term and long-term power procurement strategies to ensure reliable and cost-effective electricity supply.
  • Participate in wholesale energy markets (e.g., day-ahead, real-time, or capacity markets) to purchase electricity at the best possible rates, balancing price and supply risks.
  • Liaison with power suppliers, IPPs, and renewable energy providers, ensuring contract performance and compliance.
  • Execute integration of renewable energy sources into the power procurement strategy, aligning with sustainability and regulatory goals, as per management directives

Power Sales:

  • Execute power sales strategies to maximize revenue by selling electricity to retail customers, other utilities, or through wholesale market participation.
  • Analyze market trends, customer demand, pricing mechanisms, and regulatory changes to adjust sales strategies and pricing models.
  • Manage contracts with large-scale customers, retail utilities, and commercial or industrial clients for electricity sales.

Compliance and Risk Management:

  • Execute all power purchase and sales activities as per SOP to comply with relevant regulatory frameworks, including state and central regulations (e.g., CERC, SERC), as well as environmental and renewable energy mandates.
  • Stay abreast of regulatory changes affecting power markets and trading activities.
  • Liaise with regulatory bodies and participate in industry forums as needed.

Stakeholder Collaboration:

  • Collaborate with operations, finance, legal, and sustainability teams for execution of power procurement and sales strategies in line with overall business goals.
  • Communicate effectively with internal and external stakeholders for smooth operations.
