Job Description

The Maintenance Supervisor is responsible for the effective planning, supervision, and execution of all hospital maintenance activities to ensure uninterrupted operation of critical utilities, safety of patients and staff, and compliance with NABH standards and statutory requirements.

Key Responsibilities

1. Maintenance Operations & Supervision

  • Supervise and coordinate the daily activities of a maintenance team of minimum 5 personnel, including plumbers, electricians, and general maintenance staff.
  • Ensure timely preventive and corrective maintenance of hospital infrastructure, including:
  • Electrical systems
  • Plumbing and sanitary systems
  • HVAC and ventilation systems
  • Medical gas pipeline systems (MGPS) – coordination and basic monitoring
  • Civil works and minor repairs
  • Allocate work schedules, monitor task completion, and ensure quality of workmanship.

2. Preventive Maintenance & NABH Compliance

  • Implement and monitor preventive maintenance schedules for all engineering systems as per hospital policy.
  • Maintain records/logbooks for:
  • Equipment maintenance
  • Utility checks
  • Breakdown reports
  • Preventive maintenance checklists
  • Ensure compliance with NABH measurable elements related to facility management and safety.

3. Safety & Statutory Compliance

  • Ensure adherence to hospital safety policies, fire safety norms, and infection control guidelines.
  • Conduct routine inspections to identify hazards and initiate corrective actions.
  • Support mock drills, fire drills, and emergency preparedness activities.
  • Ensure statutory compliance related to electrical safety, water quality, and building maintenance.

4. Coordination & Communication

  • Coordinate with clinical and non-clinical departments for maintenance requests and emergency repairs.
  • Act as the first point of contact during maintenance-related emergencies.
  • Liaise with external vendors, contractors, and service providers when required.

5. Inventory & Resource Management

  • Monitor and control maintenance tools, spare parts, and consumables.
  • Raise indent requests and ensure optimal utilization of materials.
  • Prevent misuse or loss of hospital property.

6. Documentation & Reporting

  • Prepare and submit daily/weekly/monthly maintenance reports to management.
  • Maintain updated asset registers and maintenance records.
  • Support internal and external audits related to facility management.

Team Handling Responsibility

  • Proven experience in handling and supervising a team of at least 5 maintenance personnel, including plumbers, electricians, and general maintenance workers.
  • Train, guide, and evaluate team members to improve efficiency and adherence to hospital standards.

Qualifications

  • Diploma / ITI in Electrical, Mechanical, Civil Engineering, or related technical field.
  • Certification in facility management or safety (preferred).

Experience

  • Minimum 3–5 years of relevant experience, preferably in a hospital or healthcare facility.
  • Hands-on experience in hospital maintenance systems and utility management is highly desirable.

Skills & Competencies

  • Strong leadership and team management skills
  • Sound knowledge of hospital engineering systems
  • Understanding of NABH standards related to facility management
  • Problem-solving and decision-making ability
  • Good communication and coordination skills
  • Ability to handle emergencies and work under pressure

Working Conditions

  • Willingness to work in shifts and respond to emergency calls as required.
  • Physically fit to supervise and inspect maintenance activities across hospital premises.
