Job Description

Job Responsibilities

I. Litigation Management:

  • Handling Admiralty Suits, Civil, Criminal, and Arbitration matters.
  • Engaging regularly with solicitors and advocates for case updates and strategy.
  • Coordinating on claims arising under PNI.
  • Reviewing and vetting pleadings to ensure timely filing before Courts, Tribunals, and statutory authorities.
  • Demonstrating sound knowledge of applicable laws, with a strong focus on Maritime and Shipping industry legislations.
  • Preparing and circulating timely MIS reports for all ongoing legal cases.

II. Non-Litigation:

  • Drafting, reviewing, vetting, and finalizing a wide range of legal documents such as Agreements, MoUs, Charter Party Agreements, Sale & Purchase Agreements, Terms of Settlement, Lease Deeds, Trust Deeds, Letters of Intent, Powers of Attorney, Service Level Agreements, Outsourcing Agreements, Vendor Contracts, Non-Disclosure Agreements, and other commercial contracts across functions (Admin, IT, HR, Marketing, Projects, etc.).
  • Conducting preliminary due diligence including title searches for proposed acquisitions, sales, or leases of flats, shops, land, and other properties.
  • Drafting property-related documentation such as Sale Deeds, Lease Agreements, Leave & License Agreements, MoUs, and Agreements to Sale.
  • Coordinating effectively with solicitors, advocate firms, and external counsel on various legal matters, ensuring timely follow-up, issue resolution, and regular updates to senior management.
  • Designing, standardizing, and reviewing contract templates and legal instruments to support business operations, ensuring clarity, compliance, and audit preparedness.


Qualifications & Skills:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Law (LL.B.); a Master’s degree (LL.M.) is an added advantage.
  • Minimum 4 - 5 years of legal experience, preferably within the Shipping/Maritime sector.
  • Strong knowledge of Indian laws with expertise in Maritime Law, Civil & Criminal Procedure, Contract Law, and Property Law.
  • Excellent drafting, negotiation, analytical, and communication skills.
  • Proactive, detail-oriented, with the ability to manage multiple responsibilities effectively.
