- Operations Management:
- Oversee day-to-day laboratory activities and workflow.
- Develop, implement, and evaluate new and existing laboratory policies, procedures, and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
- Coordinate research activities or diagnostic services, ensuring timely and accurate results.
- Troubleshoot and resolve operational problems, including equipment malfunctions or supply shortages.
- Compliance and Safety:
- Ensure strict adherence to all health and safety protocols and regulatory requirements (e.g., OSHA, CLIA, GLP, ISO, CAP).
- Conduct regular safety audits and risk assessments to identify and mitigate potential hazards.
- Manage the proper storage and disposal of chemicals, samples, and biohazardous waste.
- Personnel Management:
- Recruit, hire, train, mentor, and supervise laboratory staff, including technicians
- Schedule staff work hours and assignments to maintain productivity and meet deadlines.
- Conduct performance evaluations, provide training, and handle disciplinary actions as needed.
- Equipment and Inventory Management:
- Manage laboratory inventory, including tracking stock levels of reagents, chemicals, and supplies.
- Procure new equipment, perform or arrange for routine maintenance, and ensure all instruments are calibrated and in proper working order.
- Manage the laboratory budget and ensure cost-effective use of resources.
- Data and Documentation:
- Maintain accurate and complete laboratory records, reports, and documentation.
- Oversee data analysis and interpretation, ensuring the integrity and security of all information.
- Prepare and present reports on laboratory performance, budgets, and project updates to senior management
Qualifications and Skills
- Education: Typically requires at least a Bachelor's degree in a relevant scientific discipline (e.g., Biology, Chemistry, Medical Technology). preferably a Master's degree
- Experience: A minimum of 3-5 years of hands-on laboratory experience is generally required, often with prior supervisory or management experience.
- Key Skills:
- Strong leadership and communication skills.
- Excellent organizational and project management abilities.
- In-depth knowledge of laboratory procedures, equipment, and safety protocols.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Proficiency in laboratory information management systems (LIMS) and data analysis software may be required.
