Job Summary
We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented L1 Network Engineer to join our growing IT team. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing first-level support for our network infrastructure, ensuring optimal performance and availability of network services. This role is ideal for an individual with a strong foundational understanding of networking concepts, equivalent to CCNA certification, who is eager to learn and grow within a dynamic environment. Knowledge of CCTV systems will be considered a significant advantage.
Key Responsibilities
- Network Monitoring & Alerting:
- Proactively monitor network devices (routers, switches, CCTV System) and links for performance, availability, and alerts using monitoring tools.
- Respond to and escalate critical alerts according to established procedures.
- Incident Management (L1 Support):
- Serve as the first point of contact for network-related issues reported by users or monitoring systems.
- Perform initial troubleshooting and diagnosis of network connectivity problems, slow network performance, Wi-Fi issues, etc.
- Resolve common network issues such as IP address conflicts, basic cable testing, port status verification, and device reboots.
- Document all incidents, troubleshooting steps, and resolutions in the ticketing system.
- Escalate unresolved issues to L2/L3 network engineers in a timely and comprehensive manner.
- Configuration & Maintenance:
- Assist with basic configuration changes on network devices under supervision (e.g., VLAN assignments, port enabling/disabling).
- Perform regular health checks of network equipment.
- Assist in maintaining up-to-date network documentation, including diagrams and IP address assignments.
- User Support:
- Provide support to end-users regarding network access and connectivity.
- Assist with network cable patching and labeling.
- CCTV System Support :
- provide support for CCTV systems, including camera connectivity checks, NVR/DVR status monitoring, and initial troubleshooting of video feed issues.
- Assist in managing storage for CCTV recordings.
- Collaboration:
- Work closely with other IT teams (e.g., Systems, Helpdesk) to resolve cross-functional issues.
- Participate in team meetings and contribute to knowledge sharing.
- Documentation:
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of network incidents, resolutions, and configurations.
- Contribute to the creation and improvement of network operation procedures.
Required Skills And Qualifications
- Education: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
- Networking Knowledge: Strong foundational knowledge of networking concepts, protocols, and technologies, equivalent to Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) level.
- Solid understanding of TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP.
- Familiarity with routing protocols (e.g., Static, OSPF, EIGRP basics).
- Knowledge of switching concepts (VLANs, STP, EtherChannel).
- basic Understanding of wireless networking (Wi-Fi standards, WAPs).
- Basic understanding of firewall concepts.
- Troubleshooting Skills:
- Ability to logically troubleshoot network connectivity issues.
- Familiarity with network troubleshooting tools (e.g., ping, traceroute, ipconfig, netstat).
- Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to explain technical concepts clearly to non-technical users.
- Problem-Solving: Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Attention to Detail: Meticulous attention to detail in monitoring and documentation.
- Team Player: Ability to work effectively as part of a team and independently when required.
- Availability: Willingness to work in shifts or provide on-call support as needed (if applicable).
- Certifications: Active CCNA certification is highly preferred. Other relevant certifications (e.g., CompTIA Network+) are a plus.
