Job Description

Role Overview

The Head of Digital Marketing will lead the league’s digital strategy, driving fan acquisition, engagement, and retention across online platforms. This role will design data-driven campaigns, build a vibrant digital community, and leverage emerging technologies to establish the league as a premier sports entertainment brand.

Key Responsibilities

Digital Strategy & Planning

  • Develop and execute an end-to-end digital roadmap aligned with the league’s brand and business goals.
  • Identify trends, platforms, and technologies to enhance the league’s online presence.
  • Integrate digital initiatives with overall marketing, ticketing, merchandise, and sponsorship objectives.
  • Benchmarks global leagues (IPL, NBA, UFC, etc.) to infuse best practices and category-defining innovation
  • Owns and evolves the league's brand identity, voice, tone, and long-term positioning
  • Leads strategy for integrated marketing campaigns that drive awareness, participation, and loyalty
  • Oversees execution of content, fan engagement, events, and community outreach through the internal team and agency
  • Interfaces with marketing agency on brand design, campaign execution, and content production
  • Develops city-level and national marketing activations aligned to player and franchise storytelling
  • Leads fan engagement and community-building programs (fan clubs, school outreach, contests, fantasy leagues, etc.)
  • Designs and implements fan journeys and audience retention loops across digital, physical, and in-stadia experiences
  • Tracks audience sentiment, competitor positioning, and regional culture to craft differentiated narratives
  • Benchmarks global leagues (IPL, NBA, UFC, etc.) to infuse best practices and category-defining innovation
  • Collaborates with Revenue, Ops, and Athlete Development to create immersive brand experiences
  • Provides creative and strategic oversight to ensure agency alignment with brand and fan goals

Content & Social Media

  • Build a robust content calendar across social platforms.
  • Oversee production of multimedia content: videos, reels, stories, live streams, podcasts, and behind-the-scenes features.
  • Partner with creative teams, players, influencers, and sponsors for impactful storytelling.

Fan Engagement & Community

  • Design campaigns to grow and retain a passionate online basketball fan base.
  • Drive fan conversations, UGC (user-generated content), polls, and live Q&A sessions.
  • Implement gamification, fantasy leagues, or esports tie-ins to enhance digital experiences.

Performance Marketing & Growth

  • Plan and optimize paid media campaigns (search, social, programmatic, OTT) for reach, engagement, and conversions.
  • Use SEO, SEM, ASO (app store optimization), and email/SMS marketing to maximize visibility.
  • Develop strategies for traffic acquisition, lead generation, and ticket/merchandise sales.

Analytics & Insights

  • Set KPIs for digital initiatives (reach, engagement, CTR, ROI, etc.).
  • Track and analyze data to inform content, targeting, and spend decisions.
  • Conduct audience segmentation to deliver personalized experiences.

Technology & Innovation

  • Evaluate and implement tools for social listening, analytics, and marketing automation.
  • Explore AR/VR, Web3, and other cutting-edge solutions for immersive fan engagement.
  • Oversee website and app development, ensuring seamless UX and mobile-first design.

Leadership & Collaboration

  • Build, lead, and mentor a high-performing digital marketing team (social, content, analytics, paid media).
  • Collaborate with brand, broadcasting, sponsorship, and operations teams to ensure integrated campaigns.
  • Manage vendor/agency relationships to ensure top-quality outputs and ROI.


Key Requirements

  • Bachelor’s/Master’s degree in Marketing, Digital Media, or related field.
  • 8–12 years of progressive experience in digital marketing, ideally in

    sports, entertainment, OTT, or consumer brands

    .
  • Expertise in social media strategy, paid media, SEO/SEM, and content marketing.
  • Proficiency with analytics tools (Google Analytics, Sprinklr, Social Bakers, etc.).
  • Strong understanding of sports fandom, online communities, and influencer ecosystems.
  • Creative thinker with strong analytical and leadership skills.
  • Ability to thrive in a start-up/fast-paced sports league environment.
