Role Overview
We are looking for a dedicated
Junior Consultant / Medical Officer (Obstetrics & Gynecology)
to join a reputed healthcare institution. The role includes a combination of
OPD consultations, inpatient management, OT responsibilities
, and
emergency coverage
.
Key Responsibilities
Clinical Responsibilities (OPD & IPD)
- Conduct OPD consultations including history, examination, diagnosis and management planning.
- Perform daily rounds for antenatal, intrapartum, postnatal, and gynecology patients.
- Communicate treatment plans, investigations and follow-up instructions clearly to patients & families.
- Coordinate with nursing staff for admissions, discharges, triage and patient flow.
- Maintain accurate, timely clinical documentation as per hospital protocols.
Procedures & OT Duties
- Manage normal vaginal deliveries and intrapartum care.
- Perform/assist cesarean sections and routine gynecological surgeries as per the OT roster.
- Handle obstetric and gynecologic emergencies (e.g., PPH, eclampsia, ectopic pregnancy).
- Conduct pre-op assessments, intra-op support, and post-op monitoring.
- Identify complications early and escalate appropriately.
Administrative & Reporting Responsibilities
- Report to the HOD (OBGYN) and work under the Medical Superintendent as required.
- Take part in audits, M&M meetings and quality improvement activities.
- Assist in scheduling OT lists, duty rosters and ensuring adequate coverage.
- Guide and supervise junior doctors, interns and nursing staff.
Shift Structure & Workload
- Rotational duties across OPD & OT as per hospital schedule.
- Night duties, weekend duties and emergency on-call participation required.
- Typical OPD patient load: 30–60 per day depending on season and allocation.
- Weekly split: ~60–70% OPD and ~30–40% OT.
- On-call allowance: ₹1,000–₹4,000 per shift + OT/procedure incentives.
Candidate Requirements
- Qualification: MBBS + MS/MD (Obstetrics & Gynecology).
- Experience: 1–3 years preferred (freshers with strong clinical skills may apply).
- Registration: Valid State/National Medical Council Registration.
- Skills: Comprehensive clinical and non-clinical skills to support high-quality obstetric and gynecologic care. Clinical skills include antenatal, intrapartum and postnatal care; management of obstetric emergencies (PPH, eclampsia, sepsis); assisted vaginal deliveries; cesarean section support; basic gynecologic procedures and routine operative assistance; family planning and sterilization procedures; fetal monitoring & CTG interpretation; basic obstetric and gynecologic ultrasound; neonatal resuscitation basics; suturing and haemostasis techniques; and recognition/escalation of complications. Non-clinical skills include patient communication and counselling, team coordination, supervision and teaching of juniors, clinical documentation, participation in audits and quality improvement, infection control practices, basic research/data collection and familiarity with EMR/HIS systems. Relevant certifications such as BLS/ACLS and neonatal resuscitation are desirable.
