Job Description

Position Summary:


The Grant Writer is responsible for identifying funding opportunities and preparing compelling grant proposals to support research, academic programs, and policy initiatives largely in the social sciences discipline. Working closely with faculty, research centers, and university leadership, the Grant Writer will play a critical role in enhancing the university’s research profile and securing external funding from national and international agencies.

Qualifications and Skills:

Essential:

·      Master’s degree in a social science discipline (e.g., Sociology, Political Science, Economics, Psychology, Development Studies, or related field); PhD preferred

·      At least 2–3 years of experience in grant writing, proposal development, or fundraising in the social science domain

·      Excellent written and verbal communication skills with a strong command of academic and research language

·      Proven ability to write clearly, concisely, and persuasively for various audiences, especially funders and reviewers

·      Familiarity with major social science funding agencies (e.g., ICSSR, UNDP, Ford Foundation, IDRC, Welcome Trust)


Preferred:

·      Experience working in a university research office or academic setting

·      Understanding of current research trends and policy priorities in the social sciences

·      Ability to manage multiple projects under tight deadlines

·      Proficiency with grant databases and project management tools

·      Some knowledge of legal vetting of the documents

 

Work Environment:

·      Office-based with a collaborative academic setting

·      Frequent interaction with faculty, research centers, administrators, and external stakeholders

·      Occasional travel may be required for conferences, workshops, or meetings with funders
