This role is for one of the Weekday's clients
Min Experience: 2 yearsLocation: RemoteJobType: full-timeThe Hydrologist / Drainage Planning Expert will be responsible for leading hydrological, hydraulic, and stormwater drainage design activities across infrastructure, transportation, water resources, and urban development projects. This role involves rainfall-runoff analysis, watershed assessment, hydraulic modelling, flood-risk evaluation, and the design of efficient drainage systems. The position requires close collaboration with multidisciplinary teams and the ability to deliver engineering-ready reports, drawings, and data-driven solutions using survey and geospatial datasets.
Requirements
Key Responsibilities
- Perform rainfall-runoff analysis using standard hydrological and statistical methods.
- Conduct catchment and watershed delineation, infiltration analysis, and runoff estimation.
- Analyze rainfall, discharge, and historical flood data to assess flood risks.
- Develop and validate hydraulic models using tools such as HEC-RAS, HEC-HMS, SWMM, or equivalent software.
- Design stormwater drainage infrastructure including channels, culverts, cross-drainage works, and outfall structures.
- Prepare GL-IL drawings, drainage profiles, hydraulic grade line calculations, and design documentation.
- Integrate geospatial and survey datasets including LiDAR, DEMs, drone imagery, and topographic surveys.
- Identify drainage constraints and bottlenecks and recommend mitigation and improvement measures.
- Prepare detailed hydrology reports, technical calculations, CAD drawings, and GIS-based deliverables.
- Coordinate with GIS, CAD, LiDAR, survey, and engineering teams to ensure data accuracy and consistency.
- Conduct field inspections and site validations for drainage and hydrological assessments.
Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)
- Accuracy and reliability of hydrological and hydraulic analyses.
- Quality, completeness, and engineering readiness of drainage designs and reports.
- Timely delivery of drawings, models, and technical documentation.
- Reduction in design rework through effective data integration.
- Client acceptance of deliverables with minimal revisions.
- Strong coordination across multidisciplinary teams.
Skills & Competencies
- Strong foundation in hydrology, hydraulics, stormwater management, and drainage planning.
- Hands-on experience with modelling tools such as HEC-RAS, HEC-HMS, SWMM, MIKE, or similar platforms.
- Proficiency in GIS tools (ArcGIS / QGIS) for terrain analysis and watershed modelling.
- Ability to interpret LiDAR data, DEMs, and topographic survey information.
- Working knowledge of AutoCAD or Civil 3D for drainage and infrastructure drawings.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and technical documentation skills.
- Effective communication and report-writing abilities.
Educational Qualifications
- M.Tech / M.Sc in Hydrology, Water Resources, Civil Engineering, or Environmental Engineering.
- B.Tech in Civil Engineering with strong hydrology and drainage experience may also be considered.
- Certifications or formal training in hydraulic and hydrological modelling tools are preferred.
Experience Requirements
- 3-12 years of experience in hydrology, drainage planning, stormwater modelling, or water resources engineering.
- Experience working with LiDAR- or drone-derived datasets is an added advantage
