Role Overview
We are seeking an experienced and capable
Construction Lead – Civil
to manage, oversee, and deliver all civil and structural works for ground-mounted or utility-scale solar EPC projects. The Construction Lead will be responsible for civil execution from site preparation through foundations, plant infrastructure, and overall civil completion — ensuring quality, safety, schedule adherence, and compliance with design & project specifications.
Key Roles & Responsibilities
- Site Planning & Preparation
Review project civil/structural drawings, scope of works, and contract documents to understand full civil scope (site grading, earthworks, foundations, drainage systems, internal roads, boundary fencing, substation/equipment foundations, and other civil infrastructure).
Develop detailed civil works schedules/plans aligned with overall project timeline; define milestones, resource requirements (materials, manpower, equipment), and site mobilization plan.Estimate quantities for civil works (earthwork, concrete, reinforcement, finishing, infrastructure) and prepare BOQ / material requisitions / bar-bending schedules as needed.
- Civil Construction & Execution
Supervise all civil construction activities at site: site grading/levelling, earthwork, excavation/filling, foundation works (pile or shallow), RCC/structural works, access/internal roads, drainage systems, fencing/boundary walls, equipment & substation foundations — as per design.
Manage subcontractors, civil labour, site supervisors, and ensure proper execution of work per drawings and specifications.Coordinate with other disciplines (e.g. electrical, structural, procurement) especially where civil works interface with equipment foundations, cable trenches, plant layout, etc.
- Quality, Compliance & Safety
Ensure all civil works comply with structural drawings, project specifications, engineering standards and applicable codes/regulations.
Inspect and verify quality of materials (cement, aggregates, steel, finishing materials, etc.) and workmanship before and during execution.Conduct periodic quality inspections and audits; ensure proper execution of structural works, foundations, finishing and civil infrastructure.Enforce safety standards — site safety protocols, PPE use, safe operations of equipment, housekeeping, risk assessments — thereby maintaining a safe working environment.
- Coordination & Stakeholder Management
Work closely with project management, design/engineering teams, procurement & stores, civil contractors/sub-contractors, and other discipline leads (electrical, structural) for smooth, integrated project execution.
Liaise with external stakeholders where required — e.g. regulatory authorities, survey/geotech teams, land/site clearance agencies — for permits, approvals, site readiness or compliance.Ensure coordination for civil deliverables that interface with other scopes (electrical foundations, mounting-structure foundations, drainage, internal roads, site access) so that overall project flow remains seamless.
- Progress Monitoring, Reporting & Documentation
Maintain daily/weekly/monthly site progress records: site diaries, labour deployment, material usage logs, resource utilization, subcontractor performance.
Track execution status against schedule milestones; report deviations, delays or risks to Project Head; propose mitigation plans when needed.Handle documentation: as-built drawings/red-lines, change-orders or variations (if scope changes), material consumption reconciliation, site completion reports.
- Cost Control & Budget Management
Manage civil works budget (materials, subcontractors, labour, equipment); track and control costs to stay within approved limits.
Evaluate subcontractor/vendor proposals for civil works; oversee vendor/sub-contractor scopes, quality, timelines and ensure deliverables match contract standards.
- Project Completion & Handover
Oversee final inspections, finishing works, punch-list items, defect rectification, and ensure civil deliverables meet required quality and design standards before handover.
Ensure preparation of as-built documentation, site clearance, material reconciliation, subcontractor close-out, and readiness for handover or next project phase.Coordinate handover with other project teams (electrical, mechanical, commissioning) so that civil scope completes in sync with overall project delivery.
- Team Leadership & Site Discipline
Lead and supervise civil supervisors, site engineers, foremen and workers; assign tasks, monitor performance, maintain discipline, productivity, safety and quality at site.Resolve site-level civil engineering or construction issues, provide technical guidance, and facilitate quick decision-making to avoid project delays.Foster a collaborative work environment among civil, structural, electrical, procurement and project-management teams.
Qualifications & Skills
Education:
B.E./B.Tech in Civil Engineering (or equivalent). Diploma with significant relevant experience may be considered in exceptional cases.
Technical Knowledge:
Strong understanding of civil construction methods, structural works (RCC, foundations), earthwork, drainage, roads/groundworks, site infrastructure, equipment foundations, and civil code/standards compliance.
Planning & Management Skills:
Ability to read and interpret structural drawings/BOQ, resource & schedule planning, material & manpower allocation, subcontractor management.
Quality & Safety Orientation:
Deep commitment to quality workmanship, ability to enforce safety and environmental standards on site.
