Job Description

We are looking for Business/Commercial Underwriters to join our growing fintech team. This role will support our commercial finance operations with a focus on scalable growth, data-driven risk evaluation. The ideal candidate will have a strong underwriting foundation, adaptability to new industry verticals, and a collaborative mindset for working with internal teams.

Responsibilities

Review and underwrite business and commercial finance applications with accuracy and adherence to regulatory and company standards.
Assess applicant risk by analyzing financial statements, operational data, market trends, and credit reports.
Leverage digital underwriting tools and methodologies unique to the fintech sector.
Provide clear, well-justified underwriting recommendations and communicate decisions to stakeholders.
Identify, escalate, and mitigate potential fraud or irregularities in applications.
Stay informed on US and AU market dynamics and fintech industry regulatory changes.

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in business, finance, risk management, or a related field.
Demonstrated experience (2+ years) in business or commercial underwriting.
Strong analytical, critical-thinking, and problem-solving capabilities.
Effective verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to explain risk decisions and partner with cross-functional teams.
Eagerness to learn, adapt, and apply new fintech industry practices, processes, and technologies.

Preferred Attributes

Prior exposure to the
US / AU
business market, banking practices, or regulatory framework.
Willingness to challenge previous assumptions and embrace change; open to continuous learning and upskilling in a fintech environment.

Role-Specific Expectations

Candidates with an underwriting background focused solely on the US / Australian market are encouraged to apply, especially if interested in leveraging this experience as we expand.
Applicants with only bank underwriting experience should demonstrate openness to transitioning into fintech underwriting, including readiness to learn, challenge conventional approaches, and rapidly adapt to sector-specific workflows and risks.
Successful candidates will receive targeted training, mentorship, and ongoing support from senior team members to ensure a smooth transition and skill development in fintech underwriting.
