Role Overview
We are looking for a sharp and entrepreneurial Category Manager - General Merchandise (GM) to lead our Home, Kitchen, Plastics, Stationery, Household Utilities, and other GM categories.
You will own the category P&L, drive the core AAP metrics (Assortment, Availability, Pricing), and build a highly relevant, profitable, and customer-loved GM portfolio tailored to SuperK s markets. The role requires deep understanding of GM consumer behavior, strong vendor networks, and the ability to balance commercial, operational, and customer-experience priorities.
Key Responsibilities
A.Category P&L Ownership
- Own the full GM category P&L improve margins, drive category penetration, and optimize cost structures.
- Build pricing frameworks and ensure competitiveness across markets and formats.
- Manage promotions and monetisation levers to improve profitability and vendor contribution.
B.Assortment, Merchandising & Customer Experience
- Build geography-specific assortments for GM categories based on consumer needs, price sensitivity, and demand patterns.
- Plan and optimize merchandising layouts, planograms, and visibility initiatives across stores.
- Maintain catalogue hygiene, pricing accuracy, and SKU health.
C.Vendor Management & Negotiation
- Develop strong partnerships with manufacturers, distributors, and suppliers across GM categories.
- Negotiate margins, TOTs, payment terms, and supply agreements.
- Create joint business plans with key partners to drive growth and innovation.
D. Demand Forecasting & Inventory Planning
- Forecast demand at SKU and category levels to maintain high availability and optimal stock cover.
- Drive inventory efficiency by reducing aging, improving stock turns, and managing exit plans for low performers.
- Work with supply chain to ensure smooth replenishment and store readiness.
E. Growth, Insights & Execution Excellence
- Leverage SuperK s offline stores, app, and quick-commerce capabilities to drive category visibility and sales.
- Benchmark competition pricing, assortment, packaging, merchandising to identify new levers for growth.
- Identify private-label opportunities within GM to drive differentiation and margins.
- Track vendor spends, category KPIs, compliance, and execution against plans.
What You ll Need
- 5+ years experience in General Merchandise buying, category management, or modern retail merchandising.
- Strong understanding of GM categories: home & kitchen, plastics, cleaning tools, utilities, stationery, etc.
- Proven commercial acumen with experience owning category P&L outcomes.
- Deep vendor network and strong negotiation experience in GM.
- Ability to tailor assortments to geography, seasonality, and local customer behavior.
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to leverage data for decision-making.
- Experience in modern B2C retail and omnichannel environments is a strong plus.
