Job Summary
We are seeking an accomplished and results-driven Business Development Manager with 5-7 years of extensive experience in the solar power plant sector. This role is pivotal for expanding our market share in both rooftop and ground-mounted solar projects, catering to diverse client segments including Business-to-Business (B2B) and Business-to-Consumer (B2C) clients. The ideal candidate will possess a deep understanding of the Indian solar market, strong technical knowledge, exceptional sales acumen, and a proven ability to identify, cultivate, and close high-value solar projects.
Key Responsibilities
- Strategic Market Expansion:
- Develop and execute comprehensive business development strategies to achieve aggressive sales targets for both rooftop (residential, commercial, industrial, institutional) and ground-mounted (utility-scale, captive power) solar power plants.
- Identify new market segments, geographical areas, and potential clients (B2B & B2C) for solar solutions across India.
- Conduct market research, competitive analysis, and stay abreast of industry trends, policies (e.g., PM Surya Ghar Yojana, net metering), and regulatory changes.
- Lead Generation & Client Acquisition (B2B & B2C):
- Actively generate new leads through various channels including direct outreach, networking, industry events, referrals, and digital platforms.
- B2B Focus: Target and engage with large industrial houses, commercial establishments, real estate developers, government agencies, PSUs, and EPC companies for utility-scale and large commercial/industrial rooftop projects.
- B2C Focus: Develop channels and strategies to reach and convert residential customers for rooftop solar solutions, potentially leveraging dealer networks or direct sales initiatives.
- Qualify leads, understand client energy needs, and present compelling solar solutions.
- Relationship Management:
- Build and nurture strong, long-term relationships with key decision-makers, stakeholders, channel partners, developers, and industry influencers.
- Act as a primary point of contact for all business development activities, ensuring high client satisfaction.
- Proposal Development & Negotiation:
- Collaborate closely with technical, engineering, finance, and legal teams to prepare customized, competitive, and winning technical and commercial proposals, tenders, and presentations.
- Lead complex negotiations with clients to secure profitable contracts and favorable terms for solar projects.
- Articulate the technical benefits and financial viability of solar PV systems, including ROI, payback periods, and subsidy schemes.
- Sales & Revenue Targets:
- Consistently meet and exceed assigned sales targets and revenue goals for both rooftop and ground-mounted solar projects.
- Manage the entire sales cycle from prospecting to closing, ensuring efficient deal progression.
- Provide accurate sales forecasts and detailed reports on pipeline status, market feedback, and competitor activities.
- Brand Promotion & Thought Leadership:
- Represent the company at industry forums, conferences, and exhibitions to enhance brand visibility and thought leadership.
- Collaborate with the marketing team to develop targeted sales collateral and campaigns.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering (Electrical, Mechanical, Renewable Energy, Civil) or Business Administration/Marketing. An MBA or equivalent is highly desirable.
- 5-7 years of progressive experience in business development or sales within the Indian solar power sector, with demonstrable success in both rooftop and ground-mounted projects.
- Proven track record of B2B sales (selling to commercial, industrial, utility clients) and B2C sales (selling to residential customers) in the solar industry.
- In-depth knowledge of solar PV technology, including modules, inverters, mounting structures, and balance of system components.
- Strong understanding of solar project economics, financial models (OPEX, CAPEX), subsidies, and policy frameworks (e.g., net metering, open access regulations) in India.
- Excellent communication, presentation, negotiation, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to understand complex technical requirements and translate them into viable business solutions.
- Proficiency in CRM software (e.g., Salesforce) and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Highly self-motivated, target-driven, and capable of working independently as well as part of a team.
- Willingness to undertake extensive travel across India as required for client meetings and site visits.
