BMS Operator

Job Title: Data Center BMS Operator Department: Operations & Facility Management Job Type: Full-Time, Rotational Shifts (24x7) Job Summary The Data Center BMS (Building Management System) Operator is responsible for monitoring, controlling, and maintaining critical infrastructure systems in the data center, including HVAC, electrical, fire safety, and security systems through the BMS platform. The operator ensures smooth and uninterrupted operations, rapid incident response, and compliance with standard operating procedures (SOPs). Key Responsibilities Monitoring & Operations Monitor real-time operations of HVAC, electrical, UPS, DG, PAC/CRAC units, chillers, fire detection & suppression systems, and security systems through the BMS. Acknowledge alarms promptly, assess impact, and escalate as per escalation matrix. Ensure adherence to standard operating parameters and report deviations. Perform routine checks and log operational readings in shift reports. Incident Management Act as first responder to alarms/events in the BMS system. Coordinate with engineering teams to resolve issues and minimize downtime. Maintain incident reports, root cause analysis, and corrective action records. Preventive & Corrective Maintenance Support preventive maintenance schedules by monitoring system isolations and reinstatements. Coordinate with vendors/technicians during planned or emergency maintenance. Ensure equipment health check logs are maintained accurately. Documentation & Reporting Maintain daily shift logs, handover notes, and operational records. Prepare and submit shift activity reports including alarms, incidents, and system health. Keep updated checklists for all critical infrastructure monitored via BMS. Compliance & Safety Adhere to data center operational SOPs, safety guidelines, and compliance standards (TIA-942, ASHRAE, ISO, etc.). Participate in mock drills for fire safety, emergency evacuation, and disaster recovery. Maintain confidentiality of data center access and operational security. Skills & Competencies Required Strong knowledge of BMS platforms (Honeywell, Siemens, Schneider, Johnson Controls, etc.). Understanding of data center critical infrastructure – power systems, HVAC, fire & safety. Good troubleshooting and analytical skills. Ability to handle stress and emergencies in a 24x7 critical environment. Effective communication for coordination with teams and vendors. Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) for reporting. Qualifications Diploma / ITI in Electrical / Mechanical / Electronics / Instrumentation Engineering (preferred). 2–4 years of experience in facility/BMS operations (data center experience preferred). Certifications in data center operations or facility management (added advantage). Shift Pattern Rotational shifts (Morning / Evening / Night) to ensure 24x7 coverage. Weekly off on a rotational basis. Mandatory shift handover/takeover process.
