Role description

Job Role: Associate II – Derivatives

Job Location: Chennai

Overview of Role:

The Senior Process Associate will be responsible for handling complex data or voice-based transactions, with a key focus on processing derivative trades and lifecycle events. The role requires close coordination with internal teams, brokers, custodians, and fund administrators. The ideal candidate will possess strong analytical and communication skills and be comfortable working in a fast-paced environment with minimal supervision.

Key Responsibilities:

Operational Support & Process Execution

  • Process transactions (voice/data) in line with Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
  • Handle inbound customer support calls and perform post-call updates.
  • Ensure 100% adherence to SLAs related to quality, productivity, and timeliness.
  • Monitor and process derivative trade lifecycle events: CFDs, Options, CDS, IRS, Inflation Swaps.
  • Manage margin and collateral processes, trade confirmations (OTC & electronic), and reconciliations.
  • Support fund managers and internal teams with post-trade operations and transaction management.

Issue Management & Escalation

  • Identify, analyze, and resolve incidents or escalate issues within defined SLAs.
  • Ensure timely communication and resolution of discrepancies with brokers, custodians, and fund administrators.
  • Flag unresolved issues or service failures promptly to the Team Leader or appropriate stakeholders.

Collaboration & Communication

  • Liaise with internal stakeholders and external parties (e.g., third-party administrators).
  • Maintain accurate records and report statuses of assigned tasks regularly.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams for faster issue resolution and knowledge sharing.

Quality Assurance & Reporting

  • Conduct quality checks on transactions if required.
  • Create and maintain reports and spreadsheets for daily operations.
  • Ensure compliance with project-related reporting standards and documentation norms.

Training & Mentorship

  • Complete all mandatory organizational and client-specific training on time.
  • Provide on-floor training and mentorship for new joiners to ensure early productivity.
  • Assist in maintaining process documentation and knowledge bases.

Outcomes Expected:

  • Zero client escalations and non-compliance issues.
  • 100% SLA adherence (quality, accuracy, TAT).
  • High-quality transaction handling with minimal supervision.
  • Readiness of new joiners within agreed timelines.
  • Consistent status reporting and improvement initiatives in place.

Skills Required:

Core Skills

  • Voice Associates: Accent-neutral or appropriate accent for the process, strong spoken and written English.
  • Data Associates: Clear, concise writing, good comprehension skills.
  • Typing speed of at least 15 WPM with 80%+ accuracy.
  • Analytical thinking and attention to detail.
  • Strong understanding of customer focus and rule-based decision-making.
  • Ability to follow and enforce SOPs effectively.

Technical Skills

  • Proficient in MS Excel, MS Word, and other Windows-based tools.
  • Knowledge of trade settlement systems and reporting tools preferred.
  • Understanding of derivative instruments and trade lifecycles (preferred).
  • Basic reconciliation and reporting experience.

Knowledge & Experience:

  • Experience: 2–5 years in voice or data operations, preferably in financial services, derivatives, or customer support.
  • Exposure to domains such as healthcare, banking, F&A, investment, or retail is a plus.
  • Fair understanding of infrastructure and operational workflows in trade processing.
  • Experience with work allocation and intake functions.

Behavioral Competencies:

  • Self-driven and capable of working with minimal guidance.
  • Strong team player with good interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines in a high-pressure environment.
  • Continuous learner with a proactive approach to process improvement.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum: A Levels or equivalent (Graduation preferred).
  • Certification or training in finance, investment, or operations (advantageous).

Additional Notes:

  • Candidates must be comfortable with rotational shifts and UK working hours.
  • Preference for candidates with derivatives and trade settlement experience.
  • Must demonstrate a strong desire to grow within the role and contribute to team success.
