About The Opportunity

A role in Enterprise IT supporting mission-critical transactional systems running on IBM i (AS/400) platforms for sectors such as banking, insurance, retail or logistics. This on-site position in India focuses on application maintenance, enhancement, and legacy-modernization projects that ensure high availability and performance of production systems.

Role:

IBM i (AS/400) Developer — On-site, IndiaRole & Responsibilities

Design, develop, test, and maintain RPGLE and CL programs on IBM i (AS/400) following SDLC and change-control processes.
Troubleshoot and resolve production incidents, perform root-cause analysis, and implement permanent fixes to reduce recurrence.
Author and optimize DB2/400 SQL queries, stored procedures, and batch jobs to improve throughput and resource usage.
Collaborate with business analysts, QA, and operations to deliver requirements, regression testing, and deployments.
Support legacy-modernization efforts: expose services/APIs, integrate with middleware, and assist migration to modern interfaces where required.
Produce technical documentation, unit test cases, and handover notes; follow coding standards and participate in peer code reviews.

Skills & Qualifications

Must-Have

Hands-on development with RPGLE on IBM i (AS/400).
Proficient in CL (Control Language) scripting and job control.
Strong experience with DB2/400 and writing optimized SQL for IBM i.
Familiarity with Rational Developer for i (RDi) or equivalent IBM i development tools.
Experience diagnosing production issues, debugging, and performing performance tuning on IBM i systems.
Understanding of batch job scheduling, job logs, and CIC (change & configuration) processes.

Preferred

Experience with COBOL on IBM i or mixed-language applications.
Knowledge of integration technologies (REST/SOAP APIs, IBM MQ) and modernization patterns.
Exposure to automated CI/CD pipelines and source-control tools used for IBM i delivery.
