Appraisal Manager


Key Responsibilities

1. Performance Process Design

  • Develop a

    clear, easy-to-understand appraisal process

    suitable for a fast-growing SMB setup.
  • Work with department heads to define

    role-wise KPIs, KRAs, and evaluation parameters

    for both IT and Sales roles.
  • Create

    goal sheets, review templates, and scoring formats

    (Excel or Google Sheets-based).

2. Appraisal Execution

  • Plan and conduct

    half-yearly and annual appraisal cycles

    , ensuring all employees complete self-assessments.
  • Coordinate with reporting managers for

    performance review meetings

    and

    rating finalization

    .
  • Ensure timelines are met and data is properly recorded for payroll and increment discussions.

3. Performance Tracking & Reporting

  • Maintain

    simple performance dashboards

    using Excel or shared trackers to monitor employee progress.
  • Track top performers, average performers, and areas requiring improvement.
  • Prepare periodic reports for management highlighting key performance trends and recommendations.

4. Feedback & Communication

  • Guide managers on

    how to give constructive feedback

    and handle performance discussions effectively.
  • Encourage an open feedback culture to improve transparency and motivation.
  • Manage communication of appraisal results in a fair and positive manner.

5. Linkages to Rewards & Growth

  • Coordinate with HR and Finance to link appraisal outcomes with

    increments, bonuses, and incentives

    .
  • Support management in identifying

    training needs, promotions, and performance improvement plans (PIP)

    .

Skills & Attributes

  • Strong understanding of

    performance management principles

    and goal-setting techniques.
  • Excellent

    Excel and documentation skills

    – ability to create practical trackers and reports.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills to interact with employees and management.
  • Balanced approach —

    objective, fair, and empathetic

    in handling performance matters.
  • Ability to manage multiple stakeholders in a growing business setup.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in HR, Business Administration, or related field.
  • MBA/PGDM in HR preferred.
  • 5–10 years of HR experience with at least 2+ years managing appraisal processes in an IT/Sales-driven company.

  • On-time completion of appraisal cycles.
  • Clarity and acceptance of appraisal outcomes by employees.
  • Improvement in performance consistency and retention rates.
  • Reduction in performance-related escalations.
