How will you make an impact in this role?

Within the Finance Risk Management Group in GRC, Market & Liquidity Risk is the independent risk management team covering market and liquidity risk at American Express. The team’s core responsibility is to design and execute risk measurement and controls across balance sheet management areas, including funding and liquidity risk and market risk.

Roles & Responsibilities:

Analyst– Liquidity Risk Oversight will be responsible for providing independent oversight and effective challenge of Liquidity Risk Management across American Express and American Express National Bank (AENB). The analyst will assume the responsibility of overseeing key areas in funding and liquidity risk management, leveraging analytical frameworks for independent risk assessment and providing effective challenge to funding and liquidity risk management processes.
This role will report to Manager, Funding and Liquidity Oversight, and will be responsible for developing and monitoring risk metrics, conducting in-depth reviews of funding and liquidity risk processes, ensuring compliance with regulations and internal policies, managing relationships with first line partners, and enhancing the firm’s funding and liquidity risk program as American Express’s balance sheet grows.

Primary responsibilities include:
  • Perform review and challenge of funding and liquidity related processes, including but not limited to methodologies and assumptions
  • Deliver data-driven insights to support financial and risk management decisions
  • Identify new and emerging liquidity risks and develop measurement and mitigation strategies
  • Prepare communications for risk management committees and senior leadership forums

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Undergraduate degree in Finance, Statistics, Mathematics, Engineering, or a related field, is required; graduate degree is a plus
  • Excellent verbal and written communications required
  • Ability to effectively deliver complex messages to senior leaders, various risk management committees, and stakeholders across three lines of defense
  • Ability to think critically and independently, devote significant attention to details, remain highly organized
  • Proactive in identifying issues, delivering and escalating key findings, and advising on recommended solutions to mitigate risks
  • Self-motivated, results-oriented with a dedication to meeting deadlines for key milestones
  • Ability to build trust with partners in Treasury and Finance
  • Experience in funding and liquidity risk management and related regulations highly preferred
  • Advanced proficiency in Excel and PowerPoint required, knowledge of SQL and Python strongly preferred
