AI Enablement Lead – Legacy Engineering (RPG / IBM i)

Role Overview

We are seeking an AI Enablement Lead to work hands-on with legacy engineering teams (RPG / IBM i) to measurably accelerate software delivery. The focus of this role is to reduce development, testing, and deployment cycle time using AI, with clear, weekly proof of impact.

This is an execution-first role with end-to-end ownership. Success is defined by speed, quality, and release efficiency, demonstrated consistently week over week.

Key Responsibilities

AI-Accelerated Development

• Enable legacy engineers to use AI-assisted tools to speed up coding, refactoring, and debugging.

• Coach teams to effectively use VS Code (or similar modern IDEs), including extensions, debugging, and AI-assisted workflows.

• Identify repetitive or error-prone coding patterns and introduce AI-driven acceleration.

• Drive practical, day-to-day AI adoption that improves developer throughput and code quality.

AI-Driven Testing & QA

• Use AI to generate, optimize, and rationalize test cases to reduce regression effort while maintaining quality.

• Leverage LANSA or similar tools to create and execute functional, edge, and negative test cases for legacy systems.

• Drive test optimization and shift-left testing to identify defects earlier and shorten test cycles.

• Partner with QA/SDET teams to embed AI into testing workflows and accelerate execution.

Deployment & Release Acceleration

• Apply AI to improve deployment readiness, validation, and change quality.

• Leverage ARCAD or similar tools for source control, build, release management, and deployment automation in IBM i / RPG environments.

• Identify and remove bottlenecks across the release pipeline, including packaging, approvals, and promotions.

• Improve release predictability, speed, and stability using AI-driven insights.

Independent AI Leadership & Architecture

• Act independently to spearhead AI initiatives across engineering, QA, and operations.

• Architect AI-enabled solutions that accelerate delivery and business workflows.

• Design and build solutions such as:

• Team chatbots that provide intelligent, role-based responses for new team members, engineers, leaders, and operators

• AI-driven knowledge retrieval for systems, incidents, and processes

• AI-assisted workflows that speed up business flow and decision-making

• Ensure solutions are secure, scalable, and production-ready.

Weekly Measurement & Reporting (Critical)

• Own a weekly metrics report that clearly shows:

• Baseline vs. current development, test, and deployment cycle time

• Measurable reductions in effort and duration

• Clearly articulate:

• What improved this week

• Why it improved

• What will improve next week

Enablement & Documentation

• Create lightweight how-to guides, playbooks, and examples for AI-assisted coding, testing, deployment, and operations.

• Drive adoption through demonstrated value, not mandates.

Required Qualifications

• Experience working with legacy engineering environments, preferably RPG / IBM i.

• Hands-on experience applying AI tools across development, testing, and release workflows.

• Experience with VS Code, LANSA or similar, and ARCAD or similar tools.

• Ability to architect AI-enabled systems, not just use tools.

• Strong understanding of software delivery lifecycles and production environments.

• Ability to translate technical improvements into business-visible metrics.

• Strong communication skills across engineers, managers, and senior leaders.

• Reduced development cycle time per feature

• Faster test execution and lower regression effort

• Improved deployment speed and predictability

• Active adoption of AI solutions (e.g., chatbots, workflows)

• Clear, consistent weekly evidence of AI-driven impact
