Job Description

Position Overview

The Academic Counsellor is responsible for guiding students through their academic choices, helping them understand available programs, and supporting them in making informed career decisions. The role involves counselling, lead follow-up, admission guidance, and ensuring a positive student experience.


Key Responsibilities

1. Student Counselling & Guidance

  • Counsel students regarding academic programs, career paths, and course selection.
  • Understand students’ interests, goals, and eligibility to suggest suitable programs.
  • Provide accurate information about courses, fees, admission processes, and timelines.

2. Lead Management & Follow-ups

  • Handle incoming inquiries through calls, emails, walk-ins, and online platforms.
  • Conduct follow-up calls to convert potential leads into admissions.
  • Maintain timely and accurate records of all leads and interactions in CRM or tracking tools.

3. Admission Process Support

  • Guide students in filling application forms and completing documentation.
  • Coordinate with academic teams for admissions, orientation, and onboarding.
  • Ensure students clearly understand policies, rules, and academic requirements.

4. Relationship Building

  • Build and maintain strong relationships with students and parents.
  • Address concerns, resolve queries, and support students throughout their journey.
  • Participate in seminars, webinars, and counseling sessions conducted by the institute.

5. Reporting & Administration

  • Prepare daily/weekly reports on leads, follow-ups, and admissions.
  • Meet admission conversion targets and other assigned KPIs.
  • Maintain confidentiality and follow institutional procedures.


Required Skills & Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree (Master’s preferred).
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to counsel students with empathy and clarity.
  • Good knowledge of academic programs and career trends.
  • Proficiency in MS Office, CRM tools, and data management.
  • Target-driven, disciplined, and organized.


Preferred Experience

  • 1–3 years of experience in counselling, admissions, or customer-handling roles in education sector.
  • Experience in tele-counselling or academic advising is an added advantage.
