Job Description

Job Summary:

We are seeking an experienced and technically versatile Thermal Engineer to lead and support the development of thermal energy storage systems, heat exchangers, and high-efficiency thermal components integrated with power generation systems. The ideal candidate will bring a strong combination of industrial experience in power plants and research-level depth in PCM-based storage systems, CFD modeling, and experimental thermal engineering.

This role is essential to the design, simulation, prototyping, and testing of thermal systems for energy-intensive and renewable-based power applications (e.g., ORC, CSP, combined heat and power).

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead industrial-scale thermal system development, integrating storage units with power generation cycles (ORC/Kalina/Steam/Hybrid Solar Plants).
  • Conduct CFD simulations and experimental validation of heat exchangers, PCM melting/solidification behavior, and high-temperature porous foam structures.
  • Evaluate and improve thermal performance of existing plant equipment, propose retrofits or efficiency enhancements for boilers, condensers, or thermal storage units.
  • Analyze transient thermal behaviors, thermal cycling effects, and thermal losses in storage systems during plant load variations.
  • Design and optimize phase change material (PCM) based thermal energy storage systems such as concentric helical coil heat exchangers, packed beds, and volumetric air receivers.
  • Document technical results and develop design guidelines, operating procedures, and R&D publications.

Qualifications:

  • M.Tech / M.S (By Research) / Ph.D. in Mechanical / Thermal / Energy Engineering.
  • 2–5 years of industrial experience in a power plant or thermal process industry.
  • Proven expertise in:
  • Design and testing of PCM-based storage systems and heat exchangers.
  • Experimental and numerical modeling of volumetric receivers, packed beds, and porous media
  • Thermal energy system optimization using MATLAB or similar platforms.
  • Proficient in ANSYS Fluent, ICEM CFD, MATLAB, SolidWorks, and relevant simulation tools.
  • Understanding of power cycle operation, heat recovery, and thermal integration strategies.

Preferred Experience:

  • Industrial involvement in ORC, CSP, or Combined Heat & Power (CHP) systems.
  • Experience with thermal management of cyclic or intermittent loads, especially in renewable-based systems.
  • Experience with thermal system commissioning, field data acquisition, and long-term thermal performance monitoring.

Soft Skills:

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent technical communication and documentation abilities.
  • Adaptable and collaborative in multi-disciplinary teams.
  • Curiosity-driven mindset with a hands-on approach to experimentation and optimization.
