Role and Responsibilities: Thermal design of hi-res electro-optical payloads to minimize image distortion and maintain alignment under orbital variations. Contribute to the selection of materials and coatings for thermal stability and survivability in space. Participate in the setup and execution of thermal vacuum (TVAC) tests and interpret the results. Assess and control the impact of thermal variations on image quality and component alignment. Collaborate with the optics, electronics, mechanical, and systems teams to develop practical, integrated solutions. Perform STOP (Structural-Thermal-Optical Performance) analysis to assess image plane movement and wavefront error sensitivity. Thermal design and analysis of electronic subsystems within payloads. Model heat flow, temperature distribution, and thermal gradients using tools likeSiemens NX or ESATAN. Assist in designing thermal paths for critical components such as optical elements, focal plane arrays, and high-power PCBs. Prepare technical documentation, test reports, and thermal budgets under the guidance of senior engineers. Qualifications B.E./B.Tech or M.E./M.Tech in Aerospace, Mechanical, or Thermal Engineering. 2–5 years of hands-on experience in thermal analysis for space systems, with contributions to hardware that flew or reached thermal qualification. Must haves: Strong understanding of thermal fundamentals (conduction, radiation, contact resistance) in vacuum environments. Experience with thermal modeling tools (NX, ESATAN, Thermal Desktop, or equivalent). Familiarity with electronics thermal management — power maps, thermal vias, heat-spreading, and packaging constraints. Understanding of thermal control strategies for space systems (active/passive cooling, low-jitter control). Basic knowledge of coating materials, emissivity/absorptivity trade-offs, and implementation of passive control components (MLI, isolators). Proactively provide support to project teams on optical design, analysis, and build throughout the project lifecycle.
