Role Overview

The Technical Writer will create clear, accurate, and user-friendly technical documentation for mechanical engineering products, systems, and processes. The role involves collaborating closely with design engineers, product managers, manufacturing teams, and quality teams to ensure all documents reflect current engineering standards and specifications.


Key Responsibilities

Documentation Development

  • Prepare high-quality technical documents including user manuals, installation guides, maintenance manuals, SOPs, service documentation, and engineering reports.
  • Translate complex mechanical engineering concepts into simple, clear, and concise language for target audiences.
  • Develop 2D/3D-based illustrations, exploded views, and diagrams using CAD data or engineering drawings.
  • Create documentation that meets industry standards such as ASME, ISO, IEC, and internal quality procedures.

Collaboration & Review

  • Work closely with mechanical engineers to gather and verify technical information.
  • Participate in design reviews and product testing to understand functionality and documentation needs.
  • Conduct document reviews and incorporate feedback from engineering, QA, and regulatory teams.

Content Management

  • Maintain version control and ensure documentation accuracy throughout product lifecycle.
  • Update documents based on engineering changes, new product releases, and regulatory updates.
  • Manage documentation repositories using tools like SharePoint, Confluence, DMS, or PLM systems.

Quality & Compliance

  • Ensure documentation follows best practices for clarity, consistency, structure, and formatting.
  • Adhere to safety guidelines and compliance requirements relevant to mechanical systems.


Required Skills & Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Technical Communication, or related field.
  • Strong understanding of mechanical systems, manufacturing processes, and engineering terminology.
  • Excellent written communication skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to interpret engineering drawings, CAD models, and specifications.
  • Proficiency in documentation tools such as MS Office, Adobe FrameMaker, MS Visio, SolidWorks Composer, Creo Illustrate, or similar.


Preferred Qualifications

  • 1–3+ years of experience in technical writing or engineering documentation.
  • Knowledge of GD&T, engineering change management, and testing procedures.
  • Familiarity with safety standards and industrial machinery documentation.
  • Exposure to Agile development processes and cross-functional engineering environments.
