Role Overview

We are seeking a highly experienced Soil Scientist to lead and execute detailed and reconnaissance-level soil mapping projects. The role involves comprehensive fieldwork, laboratory analysis, GIS and remote sensing integration, and the preparation of high-quality soil resource reports. The ideal candidate will ensure compliance with national and international standards in soil classification and interpretation, supporting sustainable land use and agricultural planning.

Key Responsibilities

1. Soil Survey & Mapping

  • Plan, design, and conduct detailed and reconnaissance soil surveys.
  • Perform morphological description of soil profiles and classify soils using USDA Soil Taxonomy, FAO, and local systems.
  • Prepare and interpret soil maps at various scales (1:10,000 and above).

2. Field & Laboratory Work

  • Identify pedons and horizons; record characteristics such as texture, structure, color (Munsell), and drainage.
  • Collect, process, and analyze soil samples for physical, chemical, and biological properties.

3. GIS & Remote Sensing Applications

  • Utilize satellite imagery, aerial photography, and DEM data for soil mapping.
  • Integrate survey data with GIS platforms to create thematic maps (e.g., soil fertility, irrigability, erosion risk, land suitability).

4. Data Interpretation & Reporting

  • Prepare soil resource inventories, land capability classifications, and land-use planning recommendations.
  • Ensure adherence to national guidelines (e.g., NBSS&LUP) and international best practices.

5. Project Management & Coordination

  • Coordinate with clients, stakeholders, and multidisciplinary technical teams.
  • Provide technical leadership and mentorship to junior soil scientists and GIS professionals.
  • Manage timelines to ensure timely delivery of project milestones.

Qualifications & Skills

RequiredEducation

  • M.Sc. / M.Tech in Soil Science, Pedology, Soil Survey, Agricultural Science, Environmental Science, or related field.
  • Ph.D. preferred for senior-level positions.

Technical Skills

  • Advanced knowledge of soil classification systems (USDA Soil Taxonomy, FAO, WRB).
  • Experience with large-scale and detailed soil mapping.
  • Proficiency in GIS software (ArcGIS, QGIS) and remote sensing tools (ERDAS, ENVI).
  • Familiarity with soil sampling, GPS data collection, and geostatistical analysis.

Job Types: Full-time, Permanent

Pay: ₹800,000.00 - ₹1,000,000.00 per year
