Job Description

Role Overview

The Shift Incharge will be responsible for managing end-to-end operations of the aluminium billet casting line during the assigned shift. This role ensures production targets, quality standards, and safety protocols are strictly met while leading the shift workforce effectively.


Key Responsibilities

1. Production Management

  • Supervise and control day-to-day aluminium billet casting operations.
  • Ensure adherence to production schedules, casting parameters, and metallurgical standards.
  • Coordinate furnace operations, metal charging, melting, degassing, filtration, and casting.
  • Monitor process parameters such as temperature, grain refinement, chemistry, casting speed, and cooling systems.
  • Maintain continuous communication with previous and next shifts for smooth handover.

2. Quality Assurance

  • Ensure billets meet required diameters, surface quality, chemistry, and mechanical property standards.
  • Conduct visual and dimensional inspection of billets.
  • Coordinate with QA for sampling, testing, and timely corrective actions.
  • Implement SOPs to minimize defects such as cracks, segregation, porosity, and surface marks.

3. Safety & Compliance

  • Enforce safety protocols, PPE usage, and safe working practices.
  • Conduct shift-wise safety briefings and ensure compliance with EHS guidelines.
  • Report unsafe conditions, near misses, and incidents immediately.

4. Team Leadership

  • Lead and supervise operators, helpers, and technicians during the shift.
  • Allocate manpower based on workload and machine requirements.
  • Provide on-the-job training to new and existing team members.

5. Equipment & Process Monitoring

  • Monitor and control casting equipment, furnaces, casting machines, cooling systems, filters, and cranes.
  • Ensure preventive maintenance activities are followed.
  • Report equipment breakdowns and coordinate with maintenance for quick resolution.

6. Documentation & Reporting

  • Maintain shift logs, production reports, downtime reports, and quality records.
  • Ensure accurate documentation of metal consumption, billet output, scrap generation, and process deviations.



Qualifications & Skills

Education

  • Diploma / BE in Metallurgy, Mechanical Engineering, Production Engineering, or relevant field.

Experience

  • 3–7 years of experience in aluminium billet casting / extrusion industry.
  • Hands-on experience with DC casting, melting furnaces, degassing units, and billet handling.

Technical Skills

  • Knowledge of casting processes, metallurgy, and aluminium alloys.
  • Understanding of process parameters, defect analysis, and machine operations.
  • Familiarity with safety standards and ISO/5S practices.

Soft Skills

  • Strong leadership and communication abilities.
  • Problem-solving and decision-making skills.
  • Ability to work in shifts and handle high-pressure production environments.
