Senior Product Software Engineer

ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
From a technology perspective, this role will fully engage as an engineer on project work, while ensuring the team and tech stack is staying current with new and emerging technologies. From a leadership perspective, while this role will have zero direct reports, there is an expectation that they will spend time training and training and elevating Associate and Senior engineers.Responsibilities:

• Maintain, enhance, and extend UpToDate’s customer facing web applications. Work with product owner to understand, design, and size new product features and enhancements.
• Use Responsive Design techniques to create an optimal user experience from a single code base for all devices from smartphones to tablets to laptops.
• Use VueJs to implement highly functional and fast user interfaces. Develop REST services using Java and Jersey to provide web client access to server-side business services.
• Work with Architects/Leads to develop scalability, performance, and deployment needs of the applications and the services on which they rely. Also, work closely with software test engineers to develop deep and thorough test coverage.
• Plan and execute tasks within an Agile/Scrum environment.
• Follow best practices and standards for coding and unit testing.
• Remain current with evolving industry trends and technologies.
  

Education: Bachelor’s in computer science (or related field) or equivalent experience.

Basic Qualifications

• 5+ years of experience writing high-quality, well-tested code. Strong Java and
  

JavaScript programming skills. Experience with one or more multiple server-side
Java development technologies and tools such as Apache, Tomcat, Servlets,Spring, Jersey, JDBC, MyBatis, XML, JSON, JMS, ActiveMQ.

• Experience using HTML/CSS/
  

VueJS
or other JavaScript frameworks to implementmodular, high performance, and functional user interfaces. Experience withVueJS or other JavaScript frameworks is a plus.

• Knowledge of common design patterns, design principles and industry best practices.
• Experience with API design, Microservice architecture, Cloud technologies and REST principles is a plus.
• Experience with automated unit and integration testing and SDLC tools like Jenkins, Sonarqube, JIRA, GIT, Eclipse, IntelliJ, Maven, and Gradle.
• Comfortable working with relational database engines (Oracle, Couchbase preferred) Preferred Qualifications
• Ability to collaborate well on a cross-functional team
• Experience working in an agile scrum environment
• Knowledge of cloud technology (e.g. Azure)
• Experience/Strong willingness to leverage AI-assisted development using GitHub Copilot/Amazon Q/Amazon Code/Amazon Whisperer/Microsoft IntelliCode/Claude Code/Cursor is a huge plus.
• Knowledge of application security practices
  

Other Knowledge, Skills, Abilities or Certifications:

• Azure or other Cloud technology certifications are a plus.
• Industry experience in the health care sector is a plus.
