The Medical Leader serves as the scientific and strategic expert for a defined Therapeutic Area (TA) or key product, ensuring alignment with the company’s medical and business goals. This role provides scientific leadership, develops and executes Therapy Area Medical Affairs Plans, and drives meaningful, sustainable healthcare ecosystem transformations that improve access and patient outcomes.
The Medical Leader brings a deep understanding of healthcare system priorities, clinical pathways, and patient journeys, translating these insights into actionable strategies. This role fosters innovation, supports evidence generation, and leads initiatives that enable the adoption of evidence-based medical practices and ensure alignment with the organization’s overall portfolio and strategy.
Provide medical and scientific direction for assigned therapeutic area(s) or products.
Maintain up-to-date clinical and scientific expertise in disease management, emerging therapies, and the competitive landscape.
Lead the development, execution, and continuous improvement of the Therapy Area / Product Medical Affairs Plan.
Act as a subject matter expert for internal and external stakeholders, offering guidance, training, and mentoring within the therapeutic area.
Embed an understanding of healthcare system dynamics, gaps, and patient pathways into strategic medical planning.
Align the Field Medical Strategic Plan (FMSP) and related field activities with the broader Medical Affairs strategy.
Ensure medical engagement plans balance traditional stakeholders (e.g., healthcare professionals, investigators) with non-traditional stakeholders (e.g., policy makers, patient groups, government, and innovative solution providers).
Collaborate closely with commercial, market access, regulatory, and corporate affairs teams to support integrated product and medical strategies.
Prioritize activities and resources to ensure strong focus on key portfolio and therapy area priorities.
Lead or contribute to cross-functional projects such as Real-World Evidence (RWE) studies, pre-launch and post-launch clinical programs, or market access initiatives.
Utilize data, technology, and digital tools to drive informed decision-making and patient-centric engagement strategies.
Engage in peer-level scientific dialogue with healthcare professionals and key external experts.
Identify gaps in patient care and propose strategic, scalable, and sustainable initiatives to address them.
Provide field insights to internal teams, helping shape medical and product strategies.
Lead educational programs and develop scientific resources to support knowledge transfer and clinical adoption of new treatments.
Provide scientific review and approval for medical and promotional materials, ensuring accuracy and compliance with internal standards and external regulations.
Offer medical input for brand strategy and promotional activities, ensuring all communications are scientifically sound and ethical.
Ensure medical governance and compliance with all relevant codes, regulations, and company policies.
Medical degree (MBBS, MD, or equivalent) with specialization or relevant experience in the therapeutic area.
Extensive experience in Medical Affairs within the pharmaceutical or healthcare industry.
Deep understanding of the pharmaceutical landscape, medical governance, and healthcare ecosystem.
Proven ability to engage and manage diverse internal and external stakeholders.
Strong project management, organizational, and cross-functional collaboration skills.
Excellent oral and written communication abilities.
Innovative and solution-oriented mindset with a focus on patient-centric outcomes.
Experience in clinical or basic research, drug development, and product lifecycle management.
Familiarity with various functions within Medical Affairs, including regulatory, pharmacovigilance, and medical information.
