Senior Liability Underwriter

The role is with one of the global reinsurance firms in India.

We are seeking an experienced Liability Underwriter specialising in Financial Lines, the role involves managing a portfolio of financial lines business, developing underwriting strategies, and working closely with clients and brokers to deliver sustainable and profitable growth.

Responsibilities

Underwriting & Risk Assessment:

• Evaluate, analyze, and underwrite Financial Lines business (D&O, EPLI, Cyber, PI, Crime, Transaction Liability, etc.) within defined authority.
• Structure, price, and negotiate treaty and facultative reinsurance arrangements.
• Review submissions, assess risk exposure, and provide tailored solutions.

Portfolio Management:

• Manage and grow a book of business while maintaining profitability.
• Monitor market trends, claims experience, and emerging risks impacting liability lines.
• Contribute to product development and portfolio diversification initiatives.

Market & Client Engagement:

• Build and maintain strong relationships with cedents, brokers, and internal stakeholders.
• Represent the firm in client meetings, negotiations, and industry forums.
• Provide technical support and thought leadership on Financial Lines.

Collaboration & Leadership:

• Work with regional/global underwriting teams for alignment and knowledge sharing.
• Mentor junior underwriters and contribute to training initiatives.
• Support senior management in strategic planning and reporting.

Qualifications

• Experience: 7+ years in Liability/Financial Lines underwriting (insurance or reinsurance); strong knowledge of the Indian market with regional/global exposure preferred.
• Technical Expertise: Deep understanding of D&O, PI, Cyber, and other specialty liability products; strong grasp of treaty & facultative structures.
• Education: Graduate / Postgraduate, preferably with professional qualifications.
