What the role is all about:

• As a Senior Lead Engineer (9+ years’ experience) on our Observability team, you will be a key technical leader shaping the future of engineering reliability and efficiency at REA. You will drive the strategy and architecture for our best-in-class observability toolkit, empowering hundreds of engineers and directly influencing the stability of REA's products
• This is a hands-on, strategic role with high visibility. You will be responsible for defining the technical vision for our core observability stack and its integration into our internal developer platform. You will solve the most complex technical challenges, act as a force multiplier for the team, and partner with technical leaders to set the direction for observability across the business.
• While no two days are likely to be the same, your typical responsibilities will include:
• Support defining the long-term technical vision and architectural strategy for REA's observability platform.
• Lead the design and execution of large-scale, strategic initiatives that advance REA's observability capabilities.
• Solve deep, complex technical problems within our observability stack and its integrations, creating solutions that enable other engineers to build upon.
• Partner with the Engineering Manager to set the technical direction and roadmap for the team.
• Provide high-level technical mentorship and guidance, acting as a role model for engineers within the team and the wider tribe.
• Collaborate with senior stakeholders and principal engineers to understand future needs and ensure the platform evolves to meet them.
• Act as the ultimate subject matter expert for the observability platform, its underlying systems, and its vendor relationships.
• 9+ years of engineering experience with a demonstrable history of technical leadership in platform engineering, SRE, or observability.
• Exceptional communication and influencing skills, with the ability to articulate a technical vision to engineers, managers, and senior business stakeholders.
• Strong debugging and troubleshooting skills for distributed systems

Must Have Technical Skills:

• Candidates must have strong hands-on experience with the following:

Core Development & Cloud:

• Python development
• Kubernetes and Docker container orchestration
• Strong knowledge of AWS cloud services (ECS, EKS, CloudWatch, IAM, Networking)

Infrastructure & Provisioning:

• Terraform – Infrastructure as Code (advanced proficiency)
• Experience working in CI/CD & GitOps based environments

Observability & Monitoring:

• Proven hands-on experience setting up Monitoring & Observability for distributed systems running in AWS ECS / Kubernetes clusters
• Experience implementing large scale log management solutions (e.g., Splunk)
• Experience setting up metrics, dashboards, alerting, and APM tools (e.g., New Relic)
• Exposure to configuring and using distributed tracing (New Relic, Datadog, Open Telemetry)
• Strong debugging and troubleshooting skills for distributed systems
• Kubernetes Control Plane Development
• Experience with KubeBuilder for building Kubernetes operators/controllers

Nice to Have Skills:

• Development experience with

  GoLang

• Understanding of

  DORA metrics

  (Deployment Frequency, MTTR, Lead Time, Change Failure Rate)
• Experience designing

  unified observability platforms

  combining logs, metrics, and tracing (e.g., using New Relic)
• Knowledge of

  SRE practices

  , SLIs/SLOs, and serverless monitoring
