Senior Electrical Design Engineer (GIS)

Location: Vadodara

Reporting to: Project Head (CPP)

Note: Only candidates with GIS experience in Combined Cycle Power Plant (CCPP) projects will be considered.

Position Overview:

Responsible for design and engineering work, planning and overseeing installation, testing, commissioning, operation, and maintenance of all electrical power equipment or systems related to a Combined Cycle Power Plant under general supervision.

Main Duties and Responsibilities:

• Prepare and issue electrical engineering deliverables such as specifications, PRs, layout drawings, calculations, bid evaluations, and vendor drawing reviews as per project schedule

• Design of Extra High, Medium, and Low Voltage power systems, BSDG, EDG, transformers, motors, generators, control and protection, switchgears/MCCs, GIS switchyard (330KV and above)

• Manage technical discussions with clients, consultants, suppliers, subcontractors, and OEMs

• Support all phases of the project cycle from concept, design, and engineering through to operation of the complete Combined Cycle Power Plant

• Ensure compliance with international codes, standards, and recommended practices for design and equipment selection

• Possess general knowledge of main plant equipment such as GTG, STG, HRSG, Exhaust Gas Bypass System, etc.

• Perform detailed or routine engineering assignments involving calculations and tests using established procedures

• Gather and correlate basic engineering data

• Design GIS 330KV one-and-a-half breaker scheme and protection systems

• Prepare electrical drawings and specifications for new IPP projects

• Coordinate with clients, contractors, and consultants to determine project requirements, schedules, and deliverables

• Responsible for sizing of power transformer, MV/LV switchgears, DC/UPS systems, batteries, GCB, MV/LV cables, plant lighting and earthing, lightning systems, and EDG

• Route IPBD and 330KV Gas Insulated Busducts (GIB)

• Prepare key SLDs, MV/LV switchgear SLDs, DC/UPS SLDs, block logic and interlocking diagrams

• Prepare cable schedule, routing, sizing, ACDB boards, BOQ for power and control cables, BOQ for cable trays, lighting layouts, earthing layouts, and lightning protection layouts

• Specify and set standards for HSE requirements in the electrical systems of the CCPP

• Familiar with interlocks and protection wiring, instrument signals, and drawings for simple and combined cycles

• Review BOP mechanical packages such as DM plant, ETP, air compressor, ACW/CCW pumps, fire water system, cooling tower, EOT cranes, HVAC, motor operated valves, boiler feed pumps, CEP, etc.

• Familiar with gas turbine black start and emergency shutdown systems

• Optimize sizing/BOQs for cable, cable tray, earthing, lighting, and plant equipment sizing such as MV/LV switchgear and service transformers

• Familiar with transformer protection, generator protection, switchgear protection schemes, and trip matrix concepts

• Perform conceptual design of cable tray, earthing, lightning protection, and illumination layouts

Requirements:

• Bachelors Degree in Electrical Engineering

• 10 to 15 years of experience in power plant projects with specific experience in combined cycle gas-based power projects, Experience Level; Senior Engineer (10 to 15 years relevant experience)

• Minimum 10 years in design of electrical systems for power plants

• Experience working for owner, consultant, or EPC contractor on large CCGT projects (>1000MW)

• Willingness to travel and be site-based in Kwale, Delta State, Nigeria for at least 50% of the time

• Previous international experience required

• Ability to manage multiple tasks efficiently and effectively

• Strong oral and written communication skills, with excellent interpersonal abilities to coordinate with design teams and resolve project issues

• Self-motivated, results-oriented, and flexible to work under tight schedules in a fast-paced, multidisciplinary team environment.
