The Role:

We are seeking a Lead Data Engineer with deep expertise in Google Cloud Platform (GCP) and modern data architecture patterns. The ideal candidate will have a strong foundation in data engineering best practices, experience designing and implementing data lakes, data warehouses, BI solutions, and a solid understanding of ETL/ELT pipelines within the GCP ecosystem.

As a lead, you will also provide technical guidance, define best practices, and collaborate with stakeholders across engineering, analytics, and BI teams.

Responsibilities:

•  Lead the design, development, and optimisation of scalable data integration and ETL/ELT pipelines/ frameworks on GCP.
• Architect and implement data warehouse, data lake, OR lake-house solutions using GCP-native services.
• Ensure data quality, governance, and security across the platform.
• Partner with BI/Analytics teams to enable self-service reporting and dashboards via Looker Studio and other visualisation tools.
• Evaluate and implement best practices in data modelling, performance tuning, and cost optimisation on BigQuery.
• Provide technical leadership and mentorship to a team of data engineers.
• Collaborate with business stakeholders to understand data requirements and deliver high-value, business-ready data assets
• Stay up to date with the latest GCP services and industry trends in data engineering and analytics

Must-Have Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related field.
• Minimum 7+ years of experience in data engineering, with at least 3+ years on GCP.
•  Strong expertise in BigQuery, including query optimisation, partitioning, clustering, and cost/performance management.
• Solid understanding of data architecture concept like  Data Warehouse, Data Lakes, Lakehouse patterns.
• Expertise in building data pipelines with GCP services: Dbt, Cloud Composer (Airflow), Dataproc (Spark/Hadoop), Pub/Sub, Data Fusion
• Strong knowledge of ETL/ELT best practices, orchestration, and data integration patterns.
• Expertise in SQL and Python for data processing and automation.
• Familiarity with Looker/Looker Studio or other BI tools.
• Understanding of data governance, metadata management, and data security practices.
• Experience working in agile, collaborative environments and mentoring junior engineers.

• Strong communication and presentation skills for client engagement.
