Job Description

Database Provisioning and ConfigurationSet up and configure new database instances (on-prem, cloud, hybrid).Automate provisioning using Infrastructure as Code - Azure CI/CDPerformance Monitoring and TuningMonitor database performance and resource usage.Analyze slow queries, optimize indexing, and tune configurations.Backup and RecoveryEstablish automated, reliable backup strategies.Perform routine recovery drills and ensure point-in-time recovery capability.High Availability and Disaster RecoveryImplement HA solutions (e.g., replication, clustering, failover).Maintain DR environments and test failover scenarios regularly.Security and ComplianceManage database access control (RBAC, least privilege).Encrypt data in transit and at rest.Ensure compliance with data regulations (e.g., GDPR, HIPAA).Automation and CI/CD IntegrationAutomate schema changes, migrations, and seeding as part of CI/CD pipelines.Use tools for version control of DB changes.Monitoring and AlertingSet up database observability using tools like Prometheus, Grafana, or New Relic.Configure alerts for anomalies, slow queries, and storage thresholds.Data Lifecycle ManagementArchive old data, purge based on retention policies.Support partitioning and sharding strategies for large datasets.Collaboration with Developers and DevOpsWork closely with application teams to review schema designs.Support dev/test environments with realistic data (with masking/anonymization if needed).Incident Response and Root Cause AnalysisRespond to outages or slowdowns quickly.Perform root cause analysis and implement long-term fixes.

Experience

Candidate should have minimum 8 years of experience with SQL Server, or other relational databasesHands-on experience with Azure Monitor, Log Analytics, and Application Insights for proactive monitoring and performance insights.Experience with DataDog Monitoring/Observability a plusExperience with database performance tuning and monitoring toolsExperience with cloud platforms such as Azure or AWSFamiliarity with database deployment and CI/CD practicesGood understanding of data security, integrity, and compliance practicesExperience with Azure Cosmos DB or other NoSQL databases is a plusExcellent problem-solving and communication skills
