About the Role

Backend Engineer

Key Responsibilities

• Design and own

  Python/FastAPI microservices (async I/O, WebSockets) for real-time voice/data workflows.

• Model and manage

  MongoDB/Atlas: schema design, indexing, aggregation pipelines, query tuning, TTL/archival, and change streams.

• Integrate third-party APIs/services

  (auth, webhooks, retries, idempotency, observability) and productionize them.

• Contribute to LLM-driven features:

  tool/function calling, structured outputs (Pydantic/JSON Schema), RAG, evaluations, and safety guardrails.

• Implement CI/CD pipelines

  , add metrics/logs/traces, and drive incident response and postmortems.

• Collaborate cross-functionally

  with frontend, AI, and QA teams to deliver high-quality, reliable systems.

• Document

  systems, write runbooks, and foster a culture of clear communication and continuous improvement.

Must-Have Skills

• 5+ years of backend development experience with

  Python

  (strong proficiency) and

  FastAPI

  (or similar async frameworks).
• Hands-on expertise with

  MongoDB

  : schema design, indexing, aggregation, profiling, and performance optimization.
• Experience with

  CI/CD tools

  (GitHub Actions/GitLab CI or similar) and

  Docker

  for containerization.
• Strong debugging skills across distributed systems.
  
• Proven experience integrating

  third-party APIs

  (auth, rate limits, pagination, webhooks).
• Excellent communication, documentation, and teamwork abilities.
  

Preferred / Plus Skills (LLM & AI Experience)

• Server-side integration with

  OpenAI / Azure OpenAI / Bedrock

  and handling streaming responses.
• Experience building

  RAG pipelines

  (chunking, embeddings, vector stores) and managing prompt versioning.
• Familiarity with

  evaluation and safety

  concepts — offline eval sets, regression tests, guardrails/PHI redaction, latency & cost tracking.

Nice-to-Have Skills

• Familiarity with

  Node.js/TypeScript

  for tools or edge services.
• Experience with

  PostgreSQL, Redis

  , or event systems like

  Kafka, Kinesis, RabbitMQ

  .
• Knowledge of

  real-time communications

  (SIP/WebRTC), audio streaming, STT/TTS.
• Awareness of

  security/compliance

  (SOC 2, HIPAA) and

  secrets management

• Hands-on

  AWS experience

  : IAM, VPC, S3, SQS/SNS, API Gateway/ALB, CloudWatch; deployment via ECR + ECS/EKS or Lambda.
