Description
Compliance and Regulation
Ensure compliance with all relevant health, safety, and environmental regulations, including local, state, and central government laws (e.g., Factories Act, 1948, Environmental Protection Act, etc.).
Maintain and update safety policies and procedures to align with regulatory requirements and industry standards.
Coordinate with regulatory bodies during safety inspections, audits, and certifications.
Risk Assessment and Hazard Management
Conduct regular workplace inspections to identify potential hazards and risks.
Develop, implement, and monitor risk mitigation plans.
Prepare risk assessment reports and recommend corrective actions to management.
Investigate accidents, incidents, or near-miss events and prepare detailed reports with root cause analysis and preventive measures.
Safety Training and Awareness
Organize and conduct safety training programs for employees, contractors, and visitors, covering topics like fire safety, first aid, personal protective equipment (PPE), and emergency response.
Develop safety training materials and maintain training records.
Promote safety awareness through campaigns, posters, and regular safety talks.
Emergency Preparedness
Develop and implement emergency response plans, including evacuation procedures, fire drills, and disaster management protocols.
Conduct periodic mock drills to ensure readiness for emergencies.
Maintain and inspect emergency equipment, such as fire extinguishers, alarms, and first aid kits.
Fire Emergency Plan
To establish plan for response and communication in the event of fire emergency.
To establish training plan for Emergency Response Team (ERT) to fight incipient fires.
Establish Emergency evacuation procedures and set program to conduct fire drills.
Review, establish procedure to account for all staff in the Assembly Area after emergency evacuation has been completed.
Arrange, coordinate with Base builder, BMI employees to participate in training and fire drills.
Maintaining records of all training, fire drill tests and recommendations for improvements.
Fire Hazards Elimination
To establish fire safety inspection programs to eliminate, minimize and control potential sources of fire or fire hazards.
To keep and update Fire Hazard Assessment Records.
To monitor fire escape routes for any obstruction and shall report any violations in writing.
Monitoring and Reporting
Maintain accurate records of safety incidents, audits, inspections, and training activities.
Generate and present monthly safety performance reports to management.
Monitor key safety performance indicators (KPIs) and track improvements.
Collaboration and Communication
Act as the point of contact for all safety-related matters on-site.
Collaborate with department heads and site managers to address safety concerns.
Communicate safety expectations and responsibilities to employees and contractors.
Equipment and Workplace Safety
Inspect and ensure the safe operation of machinery, tools, and equipment.
Enforce the use of PPE and monitor compliance among employees and contractors.
Oversee the proper storage, handling, and disposal of hazardous materials.
Other General Responsibilities
Conduct inspections to check that FLS standards, work permits are maintained during projects, fit-outs, events etc.
Submitting Form B regularly twice a year as per the Mumbai Fire brigade requirements in coordination with our registered fire vendor.
Maintain good relationship with Authorities.
Endeavors to promote goodwill and create a pleasant atmosphere amongst fellow workers/officers, employees
Abides to rules, regulations and policies of the BMI.
Perform other tasks as assigned by the BMI
Be the first point of contact in any exigency situation and take immediate and appropriate action to address any Safety, fire-related issue.
Responsible for making suitable safety arrangements in case of any events/ promotions/ marketing initiative as informed by the Operations Head.
Ensure availability and use of stipulated safety equipment and protective gear for all personnel, file indents for the same, as required.
Coordinate & support to Security, Travel, Transport team.
Qualifications
Education
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Occupational Health and Safety, or a related field.
Certification in safety management, such as Diploma in Fire & Safety engineering, ADIS, NEBOSH, OSHA, or ISO 45001, is preferred.
Experience
3-5 years of experience in a safety officer role, preferably in construction, manufacturing, or industrial settings.
Hands-on experience with safety inspections, audits, incident investigations, presenting, training, engaging employees.
Skills
Strong knowledge of health, safety, and environmental regulations in India.
Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills for risk assessments and incident investigations.
