Job Description

Criteria:

  • Qualification:

    B.E. / Diploma in Engineering with ADIS / PDIS / NEBOSH Certification
  • Experience:

    6-10 years (preferably in marine, jetty, or coastal bridge projects)

Key Responsibilities:

  • Marine Construction Safety Oversight:

  • Monitor and control safety measures during marine and intertidal activities such as

    piling, pier cap erection, and working on barges and floating platforms

    .
  • Ensure compliance with marine safety standards under

    tidal variations, strong currents, and low-visibility working conditions

    .
  • Barge and Boat Operations:

  • Inspect safety arrangements for

    crew transfer boats, barges, pontoons, and floating cranes

    .
  • Verify that all watercraft are equipped with

    life-saving appliances (life jackets, lifebuoys, rescue ropes, ladders, etc.)

    and that barge stability and mooring systems are maintained properly.
  • Permit to Work (PTW) and Risk Control:

  • Implement and monitor

    PTW systems for work over and near water

    , underwater cutting/welding, and crane lifting from barges.
  • Carry out

    Job Safety Analysis (JSA)

    and pre-start inspections for all marine and overwater operations.
  • Cofferdam and Working Platform Safety:

  • Supervise safety arrangements for

    cofferdam erection, scaffolding over water, and temporary access platforms

    .
  • Ensure proper barricading, fall arrest systems, and emergency egress routes for workers operating above or within the tidal zone.
  • Emergency Preparedness and Response:

  • Prepare and maintain

    Marine Emergency Response Plan

    covering man-overboard, fire on barge, collision, or oil spill scenarios.
  • Conduct

    mock drills and emergency evacuation exercises

    in coordination with barge crew and rescue boats.
  • Training and Awareness:

  • Conduct

    toolbox talks, induction sessions, and refresher training

    focusing on marine hazards, personal flotation device (PFD) usage, and rescue procedures.
  • Promote behavioral safety and develop awareness among workers, riggers, and divers about marine and creek work safety.
  • Regulatory and Environmental Compliance:

  • Ensure compliance with statutory norms (Factories Act, Dock Workers Safety, IS 5781:2000, MPCB, MoEF&CC guidelines).
  • Monitor and report oil spillage, waste discharge, and pollution control measures as per environmental requirements.
  • Incident Reporting and Documentation:

  • Report unsafe acts/conditions, incidents, and near misses immediately and maintain all records as per

    IMS (ISO 45001 / ISO 14001 / ISO 9001)

    standards.
  • Support audits, safety inspections, and compliance verification by client or external authorities.
  • Coordination and Continuous Improvement:

  • Coordinate between marine operations, contractors, and HSE management for proactive risk mitigation.
  • Suggest technical and procedural improvements to strengthen safety in

    tidal and marine environments
